Congress’ Supriya Shrinate calls BJP’s Sambit Patra ‘naali ka keeda’, he trends #GaliWaliMadam

The two spokespersons got into a heated argument in a TV debate on Modi govt completing 7 years in power. Shrinate tweets she has ‘rattled the joker’.

New Delhi: In a TV debate Sunday, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate called BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra “naali ka keeda” (gutter worm). Since then, #GaliWaliMadam has been trending on Twitter.

Shrinate and Patra faced off in a debate on Aaj Tak, anchored by Anjana Om Kashyap, on the Narendra Modi government completing seven years in power. The debate turned heated when Shrinate and Patra started name-calling each other — Patra called Shrinate “anpadh” (illiterate) and called the Congress “ek number ki joker party”, to which she responded by calling him “do kaudi ke naali ke keede”, and telling him “arre chup ho ja naali ke keede… jhootha kahin ka (shut up, you liar)”.

At the beginning of the segment, Shrinate can also be heard saying that BJP does not have the courage to take the name of China, and it is not in her upbringing to use foul language.

Following the exchange, Sambit Patra shared a clip on his Twitter account using the hashtag #GaliWaliMadam.

“Friends, all of you must watch this video … and think how low can some people stoop..what are their ethos…it hurts,” he wrote. The video also included a snippet from another debate between the two spokespersons on News18 India, anchored by Amish Devgan, in which Shrinate called Patra by another pejorative term “chhichhora”, and told him to speak with respect.

Shrinate, on her part, wrote on her Twitter account that she has “rattled the joker”.

Twitter divided along party lines

This latest exchange has led to Twitter being flooded with reactions, seemingly divided along political lines as usual.
