New Delhi: “Healthier options” such as roasted gram, roasted peanuts, and fox nuts would now be served at meetings of all departments of the BJP government in Rajasthan.

The personnel department of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s administration instructed this on 23 January — a copy of the order is with ThePrint.

A senior officer, quoting from the order, said healthy snacks like roasted gram, roasted peanuts, and ‘makhana’ (fox nuts) would be served in meetings of all departments to be held in the secretariat. “Apart from this, multigrain digestive biscuits have also been recommended,” he said.

Drinking water would also be provided in glass bottles and glass tumblers, not plastic. “The idea is to promote healthier options,” the government official said, adding, “… so that we can do our bit for the environment.”

He said the Narendra Modi government at the Centre prefers water in glass bottles, too.

Another government officer informed that Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant has said the use of plastic bottles and other products should be discontinued.

Before Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also directed state departments not to use plastic water bottles in meetings.
