New Delhi: Director of the film The Kashmir Files Vivek Agnihotri left a cryptic tweet on his timeline Friday, prompting fans to wonder if his next might be on the 2020 Delhi riots.
“#DelhiFiles”, that was Agnihotri’s tweet Friday morning.
He preambled it with another that said: “I thank all the people who owned #TheKashmirFiles. For last 4 yrs we worked very hard with utmost honesty & sincerity. I may have spammed your TL but it’s important to make people aware of the GENOCIDE & injustice done to Kashmiri Hindus. It’s time for me to work on a new film.”

Northeast Delhi saw horrific violence in February-March 2020 between Hindus and Muslims following a prolonged sit-in by Muslim women on the Seelampur-Jaffrabad road protesting the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.
Violence had erupted after BJP leader Kapil Mishra threatened to physically remove the protesters if they didn’t clear out within a particular date.
According to official figures, 53 people were killed and several properties destroyed. Many local residents also fled the area during the violence.
Meanwhile, Agnihotri is still basking in the success of his last film, The Kashmir Files, which delineated the migration of Hindus from the Kashmir Valley under threat from separatists in the early 1990s.
The film was endorsed by the ruling BJP government. However, the movie also garnered strong criticism from some quarters for allegedly distorting facts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders lauded the film, which came out on 11 March, for portraying “the truth” about the exodus. Many BJP-ruled states made the film tax-free. Assam even declared a half-day holiday to allow state employees to watch the film.
Last month, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, however, took a potshot at the BJP for demanding to make The Kashmir Files tax free in his state. He asked BJP to tell Agnihotri to upload the film on YouTube so that all could watch it for free.
