67% Indians won’t take metro, local trains, while 15% want to visit gym in next 30 days: Survey

The survey, by LocalCircles across 241 districts in India, finds that 93% people won't stay in a hotel for the next 3 months.

New Delhi: Sixty seven per cent of Indians have said they won’t take a metro or local train in the next 30 days even if these services were resumed. 

The finding, made in a survey by the LocalCircles, an online community platform, comes despite rising fuel prices, restarting of Mumbai local trains for essential services and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s plan to resume services.

The survey also notes that 25 per cent people were willing to take public transport while 8 per cent remained unsure.  

The study received over 24,000 responses from 241 districts across India. Out of all the respondents, 68 per cent were men and 32 per cent women.

With regard to socio-economic background, 49 per cent respondents were from Tier I, 36 per cent from Tier II and 15 per cent from Tier III, IV and rural districts, says the report.

15% willing to visit a gym or swimming pools in next 30 days

The survey states that only 15 per cent respondents were willing to visit a gymnasium or a public swimming pool in the next 30 days, while 84 per cent said they will stay away from these places for some more time. The remaining 1 per cent were unsure.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ three-phase unlock planresumption of international flights, metro services, cinema halls, gymnasiums, swimming pools and entertainment parks etc. are allowed in the third phase of Unlock 1.0.

When asked if they were planning a hotel stay with family, while on holiday in the next three months, 93 per cent said no and only 4 per cent said yes. 

On 15 June, BookMyShow had released a survey titled ‘Back To Out-of-Home Entertainment’ that found 54 per cent respondents wanting to visit a theatre within 15-90 days of the lockdown being lifted. The rest preferred to step out after 90 days. 

This survey was conducted in May 2020 across 235 cities and towns in India. It consisted of over 4,000 respondents who are active BookMyShow customers, 49 per cent of whom were aged 25-34 years. Seventy per cent of respondents were from Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, NCR, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Vijayawada and Kochi.
