100-Day countdown to International Day of Yoga kicks off

To highlight the importance of yoga and promote its health and well-being benefits, a 100-day countdown was organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and the National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN).The International Day of Yoga is celebrated every year on June 21. The 75-day countdown, named ‘Yoga Mahotsav’, will take place at the Wadia College Sports Ground in Pune on April 7, 2024.The event will focus on holistic health and wellness while taking into account the power of yoga. It is expected that over 5000 participants will take part in the event. Among them, Gram Pradhans, Anganwadi Workers & Asha Workers/Self Help Groups, Ayush Health & Wellness Centres, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Women Welfare Organisations, School Children, and more will participate in the event.

The auspicious presence of eminent dignitaries, Yoga Gurus/ Masters, and Experts of Yoga & Allied Science will also be witnessed in the event. The basic motto of the Yoga Mahotsav is to spread the message of yoga for health and well-being worldwide so that maximum people can benefit from it not only at the national and international levels.

The event, which is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Ayush, also coincides with World Health Day, which is observed on April 7. To promote the awareness of people about the benefits of yoga and to spread its message of holistic health, a 100-day countdown was rolled out by the institute on March 13.The 75-day countdown is a part of the ‘100 days, 100 cities, and 100 organisations’ campaign, which was launched by the institute to promote the practice of yoga. The campaign will include Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) workshops and lectures across the country, with the goal of popularising yoga practices such as Pranayama and meditation. The CYP is a key part of the event, as it is designed to take into account the inputs of experts and compiles day-to-day yoga practice to reap the benefits of yoga. The protocol is intended to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and harmony, which are all essential for a healthy body.

The Ministry of Ayush and the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga are jointly organizing the event. The event is expected to witness the participation of thousands of participants in the form of a gala event. The basic motto of the Yoga Mahotsav is to give a wider promotion and publicity to Yoga for health and well-being so that maximum people get benefitted both at the National and International levels. The day 75 count down to IDY 2024 event also coincides with the World Health Day, which falls on April 7, 2024.
