Varanasi: Days ahead of the seventh and last phase of voting in the state on 7 March, the streets of Varanasi — Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency — are plastered with posters and billboards with pictures of the PM and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Phir sarkar mai apradhi na chalaye, aao phir se Bhajapa laaye (Don’t vote criminals to power, come let’s bring back BJP),” says one of the posters.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) poll campaign in Uttar Pradesh focused on “improved” law and order and “good governance”, its primary opposition in the state, the Samajwadi Party (SP), has taken on the UP government by raking up issues like unemployment and stray cattle.

Campaigning for the last phase ends Saturday, and voting will take place Monday. The results will be declared on 10 March.
