Many users who have shared the images claimed that the man shown in the photograph was forced to do it due to unavailability of any government facility to carry the body during the lockdown.

A Facebook page called ‘I Support Vinay Dubey’ had first posted this image Sunday (31 May) with the caption: “Modiji wants an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ where a son has to break his mother’s hands and feet to put it in a sack and carry because he did not get any facility from the government. Fact check

The image going viral is from August 2016. The incident took place in Odisha’s Balasore where two men had to break the body of an old woman at her hip to make it a bundle and then carry it for three km in the absence of an ambulance.

It was the second such incident in Odisha that year, after a man was forced to carry the body of his wife for 12 km in Kalahandi, which had sent shockwaves across the nation.
