New Delhi: Pakistani social media users and a TV news channel are sharing a video of armed personnel waving a white flag while collecting their dead and injured across the Line of Control.

The posts — which have gone viral across Twitter, Facebook and YouTube — claim it’s the Indian Army raising the white flag. A popular tweet, with over 1,200 reshares and 2,700 ‘likes’, reads: “#IndianArmy hoists white flag to collect the dead bodies of their soldiers who were killed by the Pakistan Army at the Line of Control clashes. #PakistanArmy zinda bad Pakistan painda bad.”

— Zahid Siddique (@ZahidSiddique_) October 20, 2019

The same post has over 1,400 shares on Facebook. Pakistani TV news channel GTV also posted the video, attributing the information to Major General Asif Ghafoor, Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations.

Tweet by Asif Gafoor

“Indian Army struggling to pick dead bodies and evacuate injured soldiers. Indian Army raising white flag. This they should think before initiating unprovoked CFVs and respect military norms by avoiding to target innocent civilians,” Ghafoor tweeted on 20 October.

His tweet comes after news broke of the Indian Army targeting four terror launch pads in the Neelum valley of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on the same day.

Ghafoor, however, didn’t share any video with his tweet, which was added to the messages that went viral.

Video being misused

The video, being touted as Indian soldiers collecting their casualties, was actually shot in September and shows Pakistani soldiers raising the white flag.

According to news reports, the video is of the Pakistani Army raising the flag after two of their soldiers had been killed in crossfire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Hazipur sector on 11 September.

  1. Most Indians think Rahul is bad. But this was until I read REHAM KHAN. It is an explosive book and is available on the net for free download. Imran Khan is far far worse than our own Pappu.

  2. The two Armies consisting of professional soldiers show respect for each other’s dead.
In the years After the Kargil conflict the RSS put up a video which they said were soldiers with a white flag surrendering. This got a million views and comments, contemptuous of Pakistan.
This video was of Ladakh where a Pakistani Major who carrying a white flag of truce, had arrived with a section of men to collect the dead body of a fallen comrade.
Civilians from both sides should learn to respect the dead, a dead corpse is no longer the enemy.
The RSS Bhakts can not be expected to understand this as testified by a number mob lynchings in India, where the corpse continues to be beaten in a most horrific manner, even after the soul has departed. All the while the frenzied mob records the event to be shared on what’s app.
