Active Covid cases rise in top 3 high burden states, over 16 lakh Indians vaccinated

New Delhi: Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka — states with the highest number of active coronavirus cases — reported an increase in their active case count in the last 24 hours Monday. However, the overall active cases in India dropped to the lowest since 24 June.

Meanwhile, the number of people who have received vaccines against Covid-19 infection crossed 16 lakh.

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 13,203 new cases of Covid-19, with more than 45 per cent of these being reported from Kerala — the state with the highest number of active cases.

India’s active Covid-19 cases declined to 1,84,182. This accounts for just 0.7 per cent of the total coronavirus cases in the world currently. Kerala and Maharashtra together account for nearly 65 per cent of the total active cases in the country.

Across the country, 131 Covid-19 patients lost their lives in the last 24 hours. This brought the total coronavirus death toll, since the beginning of the pandemic, in India to 1,53,470.

India’s overall case fatality rate (CFR) is now 1.44. Punjab’s case fatality, which is the highest in the country, has increased to 3.23. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR reduced to 2.52. Sikkim has the third-highest fatality rate at 2.19.

The number of Covid-19 tests carried out over the last 24 hours dropped to 5,70,246 across 1,210 government laboratories and 1,143 private laboratories.

A total of 19,23,37,117 Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

Despite the drop in the number of tests conducted, the test positivity rate over the last 24 hours was 2.3 per cent. The overall test positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, has also reduced to 5.5 per cent.

A total of 16,13,667 people across India have received Covid-19 vaccinations, with 31,466 doses delivered in the last 24 hours. A total of 10 adverse events have been reported so far in India.

With 1,91,443 doses delivered, Karnataka has the highest number of vaccinations so far in India.

As many as 13,298 Covid-19 patients recovered across India in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic in the country to 1,03,30,084.

Over 14 per cent of the the total Covid-19 recoveries in the world are from India.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 1,06,67,736 people have been infected with Covid-19 in India. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.

Kerala reported a rise in its active cases Monday. With 6,035 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the state in the last 24 hours, the number of active cases in the state rose to 73,121.

So far, a total of 8,90,278 Covid-19 cases have been reported from the state, which makes Kerala the state with the third-highest number of Covid-19 cases.

A total 3,607 Covid-19 patients have died in the state, with 20 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra too saw an increase in its active cases. As of Monday, active cases in the state stand at 46,057, with 2,752 new cases detected in the last 24 hours. The state reported 45 Covid-19 deaths since Sunday, taking the total death toll to 50,785.

The state has had a total of 20,09,106 Covid-19 infections since the beginning of the pandemic, which is the highest in the country.

In Karnataka too active cases increased to 7,529, with 573 new cases of Covid-19 detected over the last 24 hours.

A total of 9,36,051 infections have been reported from the state since the beginning of the pandemic, the second-highest after Maharashtra. The state reported four deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the Covid-19 death toll to 12,197.

In Uttar Pradesh, active cases declined to 7,082 Monday. In the last 24 hours, 268 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported from the state.

So far, as many as 5,98,713 people in the state have been infected with Covid-19. Of these, 8,617 people have succumbed to the infection, with 14 Covid-19 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal has the fifth-highest number of active cases, with 6,323 active cases recorded as of Monday. The state reported 389 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the state so far to 5,68,103.

Of these, 10,115 people have died, with eight deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
