New Delhi: Zoho founder and Chief Scientist, Sridhar Vembu, recently responded to American investor Eric Weinstein’s post on X about growing racism toward Indians and Hindus in the US. “The urgent national priority is to build, build and build,” he wrote on X.

“Until India develops, based on the talents of our own people, we will not find true respect in the world, no matter whether right, left or center is in charge anywhere,” Vembu said.

Weinstein had tweeted that he is seeing a lot of “growing raw hatred against India, Indians, Hindus, Indian-Americans, etc. for no reason.”

“Would be happy to have anyone who feels that hatred quietly unfollow me. Simple. Clean. Thanks in advance,” he wrote.

Showing the mirror

In response, Vembu claimed that the racist who shows hatred toward Indians “shows us a mirror.”

“The racist shows us a mirror and asks: ‘If your nation is smart, why do you want to come here.’ I do not hate him; I want to respond by building,” Vembu wrote.

Vembu doesn’t hate Indians, who think their country will never develop either. He wants to respond to them too “by building.”

“Companies and nations are built by people who believe it can be done. The urgent national priority is to build, build and build,” he said.

Vembu’s post received positive responses from users on X.

“Hi Sridhar, very nicely said. Response to all the negatives is being positive, build and grow tall to a level where we no more hear those noises!” a user commented.

“India is one of the most culturally vibrant countries in the world. That should be enough for our own self-respect. But we must build for prosperity and abundance,” another user added.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
