New Delhi: Ahead of the release of Peddi, actor Ram Charan credited Salman and Aamir Khan for paving the way for his upcoming sports drama with their films Sultan and Dangal.
“Those films gave us so much confidence, so thanks to both of them for starting this journey,” Ram Charan said at the film’s trailer launch event in Mumbai on 18 May. “We believed this genre had worked in the past, and we followed the same route. The transformation was inevitable. It had to be done because it is part of the story.”
Describing the film’s core theme, Charan said Peddi revolves around identity and purpose. He explained that the story follows a man struggling with an identity crisis before eventually fighting for something far bigger than himself.
“Peddi is a crossover athlete. His pain, his journey and his struggle have been beautifully etched in a film that feels both organic and commercial at the same time,” the actor said.

Chiranjeevi on Peddi
Charan explained that the film balances emotional depth with commercial storytelling while tracing the journey of a crossover athlete. He assured that audiences across age groups would connect with the film. Charan also revealed his father and superstar Chiranjeevi’s reaction after watching some portions of the film.
“Even my dad saw portions of the film and told me, ‘For an actor to get a film like this, it takes a decade. Every year you cannot get a Magadheera or an RRR. Relish every moment of this because you may not get a film like this again.’ Good films do not come easily, and this is one of those films that I want to preserve in my library forever,” he added.
Charan also praised director Buchi Babu Sana for his passion and commitment. Recalling the narration, he said that the filmmaker laid out the entire script across the floor and spent nearly three hours explaining every scene in detail, instantly convincing the actor to take up the project despite its intense physical demands.
Peddi, also starring Janhvi Kapoor and Jagapathi Babu, is set to release on 4 June. It is backed by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings, the banners behind Pushpa: The Rise (2021).
