New Delhi: Karan Johar regrets never interviewing Sridevi, he admitted on the first episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9.

Karan has hosted over 120 guests across eight seasons of Koffee With Karan (KWK). From Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, Salman, Aamir to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Neetu Singh, the couch has seen every Bollywood A-lister. Now that KWK is in its last season, KJo expressed that there is one actor he regrets not interviewing — Sridevi.

The new season premiered on JioHotstar on 14 October, with Salman as the first guest. Karisma Kapoor later joined him on the couch as a special guest to conduct the rapid fire round.

During the rapid fire round, Karisma asked KJO to name the one person he would have loved to invite onto the infamous couch but he never could.

“My biggest deepest desire was to interview Sridevi ma’am. And, I am so sad I wasn’t able to direct her, produce a film with her, or conduct a talk show with her. I am her biggest fan for life,” KJO said.

The filmmaker was quite candid in the rapid fire round. KJO revealed that after classical music, his naughty playlist lately has a lot of Haryanvi songs.

“I am into it right now,” Karan said. To which Salman added, “try Bhojpuri.”

Salman ‘fired’ KJO for making this film

Karan revealed that Salman once “fired him for making Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.” The 2006-film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Abhishek Bachchan, and Rani Mukerji. It explored infidelity and complicated marriages.

Over the years, it is one film that hasn’t aged well among the audiences. Many criticise KJO for justifying infidelity.

During the rapid fire, Karisma asked Karan about the one film he would want to remake from his own filmography, and he said Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

“I got a lecture from Salman on Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in the lobby of a hotel in London. He fired me for making that film,” KJO said.

At the time, Salman had explained that he wanted certain changes in the film before bluntly saying, “don’t make that film.”

KWK favourites

Discussing their KWK favourite episodes, Karan picked the Anushka-Katrina episode 8 of season 5 as his favourite episode and even admitted that every guest played it “very safe” that season.

When asked about the one guest that should have played safe on the couch, KJO instantly replied “Hardik Pandya.” Salman, sitting next to him on the couch, nodded.

Pandya had appeared on the couch with KL Rahul in 2019. His comments about his relationships with women, including comments widely condemned as sexist and misogynistic, led to heavy criticism. The cricketer spoke about his sexual experiences and how openly he discussed them with his parents.

Among the highly debated episodes, Karan said that the Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone episode in Season 8 got unnecessary hate. It was the opening episode and caused a major online debate as Padukone spoke about the early stages of her relationship with Singh. Her comments about dating without immediate commitment prompted intense scrutiny of their relationship.
