New Delhi: The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards saw fan favourites The Pitt, Widow’s Bay, Hacks and Pluribus become the biggest winners, with several actors taking home their first Emmys.
Medical drama The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series, with Noah Wyle taking home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The series has now won nine Emmys overall, including six this year after picking up four at the Creative Arts Emmys and two at the main ceremony.
Rhea Seehorn won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus, marking her first Emmy win. The show has won six Emmys in its first season, including four at the Creative Arts Emmys.
In the comedy category, Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay won Outstanding Comedy Series. Matthew Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series; Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root took home the supporting acting awards. Hiro Murai won Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, and Katie Dippold won Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. The show made Emmy history with 14 wins this year, the most ever for a comedy series in a single season.
Jean Smart made history with Hacks, winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the fifth consecutive season. This is her fifth Emmy for playing Deborah Vance and her eighth Emmy overall. Hacks, which ended earlier this year, has now won 14 Emmys since its debut.
The limited-series categories also had notable wins. DTF St. Louis (2025) won Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, with David Harbour and Linda Cardellini taking home the supporting acting awards. The show finished the 2026 Emmy season with six wins, including awards for writing, directing, cinematography, picture editing and supporting acting.
Matthew Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for The Beast in Me (2025), and Sally Field won Outstanding Lead Actress for Remarkably Bright Creatures (2025). Field’s victory also made her the oldest woman to win the category.
In the variety categories, the recently cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (2015–2026) won Outstanding Variety Series. The show’s writing team also won Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. It ended its run on CBS in May, and its 2026 wins took the programme’s Emmy total to seven.
The Traitors (2023–present) won Outstanding Reality Competition Program. The show has now won 14 Emmys overall, including its latest victories in 2026. South Park (1997–present) also added another Emmy with its win for Outstanding Animated Program.
This year’s Emmy Awards were hosted by Mariska Hargitay at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
