Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 7 & Exit Polls: NDA to win over 353 seats, INDIA Alliance to trail behind

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 7 voting: In the fray were PM Narendra Modi, Union minister Anurag Thakur, TMC's Abhishek Banerjee and Akali Dal's Harsimrat Kaur Badal, among others.

New Delhi: Polling was underway across 8 states/UTs in this phase — the 7th — of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The 57 seats where polling is being held includes all 13 seats in Punjab and all 4 seats in Himachal Pradesh, besides 13 in Uttar Pradesh, 9 in West Bengal, 8 in Bihar, 6 in Odisha, 3 in Jharkhand, and the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat.

Of these 57, the BJP had won 25, the TMC 9, the Congress 8 and the JD(U) 3 seats in 2019.

In the fray in this phase were PM Narendra Modi, Union minister Anurag Singh Thakur, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Harsimrat Kaur Badal, among others.

Exit Polls began soon after the polling concluded. ThePrint has included the results of five surveys in this blog.

10:20 pm: Updates to this blog have ended.

10:15 pm: Four exit poll surveys have suggested that NDA will emerge victorious in over 353 seats while the maximum seats INDIA alliance will gain is 182.

10:00 pm: BJP is projected to win a minimum of 18 cities in Odisha. Out of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state, Naveen Patnaik’s BJD is only projected to emerge victorious in 0-2 constituencies, Axis My India Exit Polls has suggested.

09:45 pm: The Axis My India exit poll predicted gains for the BJP in West Bengal forecasting 26–31 seats for the BJP, and the TMC to win 11–14 seats, with the Left projected to win 2 seats.

09:25 pm: The Axis My India exit poll has predicted 28-32 of 48 seats in Maharashtra for the NDA alliance and 16-20 for the INDIA bloc.

09:15 pm: Axis My India Exit Poll 2024 projects the Congress-led alliance is expected to maintain its dominance in Kerala. Out of the two seats of Manipur, Congress is projected to win one seat, while BJP is projected to lose in the state.

09:00 pm: Axis My India Exit Poll 2024 projects NDA to win 180-201 seats, 81-102 for INDIA in 16 states so far. It suggests BJP victory in Uttarakhand, and at an advantageous position in Assam. 

08:45 pm: In the state of Uttar Pradesh, India TV-CNX Exit Polls suggests the following party-wise vote share –

  • BJP-62-68
  • SP-10-16
  • BSP-0
  • Cong-1-3
  • RLD-2
  • Apna Dal S-2

08:25 pm: Axis My India Exit Polls predict that Congress has edge in Punjab, BJP projected to win 6-8 seats in Haryana.

08:10 pm: Axis My India Exit Poll Results 2024 predicts a neck-and-neck fight in Goa, and a saffron sweep in Delhi for the BJP might win 6-7 seats in the city-state.

08:05 pm: The BJP is likely to get unprecedented results in Telangana by winning seven to nine Lok Sabha seats in the southern state, according to CVoter exit poll.

07:55 pm: The India Today-Axis exit polls have predicted a clean sweep for the BJP in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. It also suggests the NDA leading in Bihar with the BJP, JD(U) and other regional parties together projected to win 29-33 of 40 seats in the state.

It also projected Congress to do better than 2019 in Jharkhand and Rajasthan, and gain a larger vote share than previous elections in Karnataka.

07:50 pm: In Gujarat, the India TV-CNX Exit Poll suggests a clean sweep for the BJP in all 26 seats in the state.

07:40 pm: According to India TV-CNX Exit Poll, the Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to win 5 to 7 seats out of 39 parliamentary seats in the state. Meanwhile, DMK is seat to get 16-18 seats.

Here is a party-wise predictions for seats: 

  • BJP: 5-7
  • DMK: 16-18
  • Congress: 6-8
  • AIADMK: 0-1
  • Others: 8-1

The Exit poll also suggests that BJP will win the one seat in Puducherry UT.

07:15 pm: As elections conclude, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa told the media, “Today, the polling on the remaining 13 Lok Sabha seats concluded in the 7th phase. The average voter turnout on these 13 seats is 54% till 5 pm…”

06:45 pm: Exit polls begin as voter turnout data is still awaited for the seventh phase of Lok Sabha polls. The Congress has also decided to participate in the exit polls after having decided to boycott it.

06:25 pm: Till 5 pm, an average of 58.34% voter turnout was recorded across the 57 seats in the seventh and last phase of LS polls.

However, in Jharkhand’s Dhumka district, till 3pm only 4 voters out of 430 enrolled came to vote at a booth. Residents of Bagdubhi village are protesting against the construction of a coal dumping yard.

06:15 pm: Polling parties have started sealing EVMs in Amritsar. Election Commission thanks all stakeholders — voters, polling personnel, security forces, media and political parties.

05:55pm: Voter turnout of 55.20 percent recorded in Punjab state till 5pm. The state sends six MPs to the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba, villagers boycotted elections demanding road connectivity to their villages, namely — Makhan, Chachul and Juri.

05:45 pm: The Himachal Pradesh BJP unit has filed a complaint against CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for wearing a National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) scarf alleging MCC violation.

05:30 pm: EC shares images and videos from world’s highest polling station in Spiti. All four seats of Himachal Pradesh have gone to polls today in the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections.

05:00 pm: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee casts her vote in Kolkata today.

04:45 pm: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi, Kalpana Soren, Tejashwi Yadav, Sitaram Yechury, Sharad Pawar reach Mallikarjun Kharge residence for I.N.D.I.A alliance meeting on Saturday.

04:30 pm: 49.68% voter turnout recorded till 3 pm. Here’s a statewise list of voter turnout in the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections till 3pm.

Himachal Pradesh 58.41%
Jharkhand 60.14%
Odisha 49.77%
Punjab 46.38%
Uttar Pradesh 46.83%
West Bengal 58.46%

Narendra Modi is an incumbent MP from Varanasi, a constituency that goes to polls today. Over 19 lakh voters are going to vote today to decide the fate of seven candidates.

04:00 pm: The District Magistrate of Cuttack in Odisha took to twitter to clarify, “In Booth No-184 & 185 of Salipur AC, both the parties clashed 150 mtrs outside the booths. Presence of the Candidate has aggravated the situation. The report of attack with “paniki” isn’t true. The report of Booth capture is completely false.”

03:35 pm: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s great-grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose cast his vote with his wife in West Bengal’s Kolkata today. After casting his vote, he told the media, ” “I think, this is a crucial Lok Sabha election. Kolkata Dakshin is a very progressive and inclusive constituency. I think people of South Kolkata would fight against divisive communal politics, it would support progressive candidates, it would support inclusive secularism.”

03:25 pm: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Education minister Daljit Singh Cheema has alleged the Aam Aadmi Party candidates distributed voter slips with photos of Bhagwant Mann, Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP symbol at polling booths in Punjab.

He also shared a video on X(formerly twitter) of the AAP leader Balbir Singh Pannu, Vice Chairman Punsup Punjab forcibly entering booth number 131 village Kot Ahmed Khan of Fatehgarh Churian assembly constituency.

03:10 pm: BSP’s Ferozepur candidate Surinder Kamboj has been booked for allegedly getting his video recorded while casting his vote in Punjab today.

03:00 pm: Actor and TMC leader cast his vote in Patna in the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections today. He told the press, “I have made it clear that that the environment is in the favour of the INDIA bloc. The citizens of the country are with us.”

Congress leader and INDIA bloc chief Mallikarjun Kharge took to X(formerly Twitter) asserting that the “festival of democracy” will be considered successful only when democratic powers defeat the dictatorial ones. “asserted that the “festival of democracy” will be considered successful only when democratic powers defeat the dictatorial ones,” he added.

02:40 pm: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala reaffirmed to the media that “the INDIA alliance will come to power because the people of India want a change,” while calling PM Modi’s Tamil Nadu visit “political propaganda.”

Meanwhile in West Bengal, BJP candidate from Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency, Locket Chatterjee claimed that the BJP will secure more than 30 seats in the state. “A large number of people have voted for BJP. Even the TMC people are upset about their party,” she told the media after casting her vote.

01:50 pm: A voter turnout of 40.09 per cent has been recorded till 1 pm.

Himachal Pradesh remains at the top position with 48.63 per cent votes cast till 1pm. While Bihar stands at the lowest with 35.65 per cent votes cast.

01:35 pm: Bunty Mukherjee an ANI stringer, was brutally injured in a clash between TMC and BJP in West Bengal. He was present in the state to cover the last phase of 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

01:15 pm: TMC supporters protest against alleged proxy voting being conducted by Bharatiya Janta Party in Kolkata. Slogans are being raised by protesters against BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Kolkata North, Tapas Roy.

Roy, however, argued that their (TMCs) polling agents are present at the polling booth and said he wasn’t aware of any proxy voting being conducted.

He is contenting against Congress’ Pradip Bhattacharya and TMC’s Sudip Bandopadhyay.

01:00 pm: Actor Ayushman Khurana arrives in Chandigarh to cast his vote. He also urged others to cast their votes and said, “We don’t have a right to complain if we don’t vote…”

12:30 pm: Aam Aadmi Party’s Amritsar candidate Kuldeep Dhaliwal casts his vote. The Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab. The fielded candidates from this constituency are INC’s Gurjeet Singh Aujla and SAD’s Anil Joshi.

Earlier, former Punjab CM and Congress Party’s Jalandhar candidate Charanjit Singh Channi alleged, ‘Aam Aadmi Party and BJP are spreading false propaganda’. He urged people not to get trapped in this false propaganda.

12:00 pm: A voter turnout of 26.3 per cent has been recorded till 11 am.

Himachal Pradesh stands first with 31.92 per cent votes cast followed by Jharkhand (29.55), West Bengal (28.10), Uttar Pradesh (28.02), Bihar (24.25), Odisha (22.64) and Punjab (23.91)

 

11:40 am: Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu arrives to cast his vote at a polling station in Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency.

The key contenders from this seat are BJP’s Anurag Singh Thakur and INC’s Satpal Raizada.

11:15 am: Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal and leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal cast their vote in Firozpur’s Badal village.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal also ‘urged people to fight against the forces which are trying to weaken democracy’.

The candidates from this constituency are Nardev Singh Bobby Mann (SAD), Gurmit Singh Sodhi (BJP), Sher Singh Ghubaya (BJP) and Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar (AAP).

11:00 am: BJP’s Basirhat candidate Rekha Patra casts her vote in Sandeshkhali. After casting her vote she said, she exercised her right to vote after a period of 11 years. Patra further professed her belief in PM Modi’s win.

“I have cast my vote after 11 years. Goons of TMC won’t be able to do anything. People will decide on their own and pick PM Modi,” says Rekha Patra

10:40 am: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee cast his vote and said, these elections were different from earlier elections, as they were not about ‘electing’ but about ‘protesting and rejecting’.

Abhishek Banerjee, is Trinamool Congress’s Lok Sabha candidate from the Diamond Harbour seat. He is contesting against BJP’s Abhijit Das and CPI(M)’s Pratik Ur Rahaman.

10:15 am: BJD candidate from Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur seat, Rajashree Mallick cast her vote and expressed her happiness on the peaceful conducting of polls at the booth.

10:00 am:
A voter turnout of 11.31 percent has been recorded till 9 am.

A state wise break up shows Himachal Pradesh has seen the highest voting with 14.35 per cent votes cast, while Odisha ranks the lowest at 9.64 per cent.

09:45 am: West Bengal Chief Electoral Office through a post on X informed that early morning today at 6:40 am the EVMs and papers of Sector officer had been looted by local mobs and had been thrown in a pond near Benimadhavpur FP school, at 129-Kultali AC of 19-Jaynagar (SC).

The electoral office initiated swift action — ‘lodged an FIR, provided fresh EVMs and papers to the Sector Officer.’ As a result the ‘poll process in all six booths under the Sector is running uninterrupted.’

09:30 am: BJP candidates Anurag Thakur and Kangana Ranaut cast their votes in Hamirpur and Mandi Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh, respectively.

While former Himachal Pradesh CM and father of Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Prem Kumar Dhumal, hoped that his son would win the Hamirpur seat for the fifth time and serve the people of the country.

09:15 am: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann along with his wife Dr Gurpreet Kaur cast their vote in Sangrur constituency.

After casting his vote the CM urged Punjabis to make a responsible choice while electing their representatives.

Among the contenders of the Sangrur seat are, Congress’ Sukhpal Singh Khaira, BJP’s Arvind Khanna, AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, SAD’s Iqbal Singh Jhundan and SAD (Amritsar)’s Simranjit Singh Mann.

09:00 am: Saira Shah Halim, CPI(M)’s Lok Sabha candidate from Kolkata South, claims that Mamata Banerjee has her agents everywhere and is encouraging violence all around. She also demonstrated her faith in the citizens of the country to not tolerate such behaviour, ‘public will give a reply,’ she said.

The CPI(M) candidate is contesting against BJP MP Debasree Chaudhuri and TMC candidate Mala Roy.

08:45 am: Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a post on X, called on all the voters of the country to cast their votes. ‘Together let’s make our democracy more vibrant and participative,’ he added

08:30 am: Elderly people gather early in the morning to cast their votes.

08:15 am: Among the earliest voters were UP CM Yogi Adityanath, AAP MP Raghav Chaddha, BJP national president JP Nadda. Each of them after casting their votes in their respective constituencies urged the voters to come out in large numbers and practice their franchise.

The key contenders from the Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh include PM Narendra Modi, himself, who is competing against INC president from UP, Ajay Rai and Ather Jamal Lari from BSP.

08:00 am: Polling began at 7 am in 57 constituencies in the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections. Key seats in today’s contest include Varanasi in UP, Chandigarh, Jalandhar in Punjab, Mandi and Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, Diamond Harbour in West Bengal among others.
