New Delhi: In an unprecedented move last week, India voted in support of Israel at the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to deny observer status to a Palestinian human rights organisation named ‘Shahed’.

This is the first time India has taken a step back from its decades-old position on the two-state theory under which New Delhi sees both Israel and Palestine as separate and independent countries, seeking to bring peace in West Asia.

The vote, which took place on 6 June at the UN, saw countries such as US, France, Germany, India, Japan, UK, South Korea and Canada polling in favour of Israel, while China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and some others voted in favour of the Palestine body.

The proposal made by ‘Shahed’ to obtain observer status in the UN got rejected by a 28-14 vote.

‘First sign’

On Tuesday, Maya Kadosh, deputy chief of mission at the Israel embassy in India, tweeted, “Thank you India for standing with @IsraelinUN and rejecting the request of terrorist organization “Shahed” to obtain the status of an observer in #UN. Together we will continue to act against terrorist organizations that intend to harm.”

“This is the first time Israel had moved the proposal to reject the request made by ‘Shahed’ to grant it an observer status,” Kadosh told ThePrint.

She added that it has links with Hezbollah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad that was designated as terrorist organisation in 1997.

“This is a good sign… India was the first country to support us amongst the Asia group, so we are very happy,” Kadosh said.

However, many within the diplomatic circles see India’s move as the first step towards moving away from the two-state theory, albeit gradually.

Terror organisation?

A statement by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that ‘Shahed’ claims to be dealing with human rights and humanitarian issues, but in practice it is a “terrorist organisation” and operates as “an arm of the Hamas terror organisation” based in Lebanon.

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas has been described as a terrorist organisation by many European countries.

Israel plans to share some more intel on ‘Shahed’ and its alleged links with other terrorist organisations with ECOSOC to make its case stronger.

  1. Israel helped india every warlike crisis against paki and these mulla countries and IOC provided money and manpower to terrorist

  2. These Muslim nation’s at the OIC have no qualms about acting against us when it comes to Kashmir.. they even had the gall to appoint a special representative… Time to hit back

  3. All those written for the TERRORIST ISRAEL
who started terorrist activities in world.
Who occupied Palestine land, who occupied other side of jeroshalem , who killed innocents kids, women with sophisticated weapons, who used poisoning gas for innocents, who stopped food , who still doing inhuman activities against Palestine.
In the name of peace both America and Israel doing all terorrist activities but peace loving people of India become blind .
If ur neighbor occupied ur piece of land ofur home what will u do. U close eyes.

    • incoherent rambling at its best. trying defend the indefensible situation lead to amnesia in few people i do understand get well soon .

      • “blabbering without iota of facts”, “incoherent senseless rambling”, “amnesiac” – Looks like some people blame their own situation on others!

          • In fact it looked like your compulsion to comment on and abuse every opposing view!

        • you are weighing yourself down with preconceived notion … i don’t abuse to any one who held contrarian view… i believe in agree to disagree its just your views are too pedantic and trite …

          • Good to know!

Btw, “amnesiac”, “nut case”, “dim wit”, “blabbering”, “incoherent senseless”, “fossil remnant”, “lost your brain”, “crap ideologist”, “champion of doom day” are all personal comments.

But I am still hopeful you will learn to argue with decency.

  4. Great job by the Modi Govt. It was high time that our foreign policy was not dictated based on religion. Even the arabs now see the truth in this. There is a saying in the whole of the arabian peninsula : “let us support the Palestinians in some of their causes, but give them a country of their own – never in this universe”. The local arabs just tolerate the palestinians bcos of the religion, otherwise they would have been thrown in the rub-al-khali.

  5. Very shameful act by the govt. of India . Palestine is not any terrorist country while as Israel is the main centre of terrorism country in all over the world. I stand with the innocent people of Palestine.

      • Why act like a headless chicken who is running helter-skelter? Learn to respect people’s views and differences. Try not getting personal – if you can.

        • i am not commenting or abusing to him/her or you on personal basis mr. gundya … you too learn what realpolitik is its not auditorium where you preach idealism … an idealism doesn’t work … you are in habit of seeing things in black and white btw lot of gray matter left in between.. think on it! who will not want peace but no one will accept it if the other parry is hell bent to break someone into pieces (here in case of Israel suffering through hamass) and in retaliation everyone are suffering .. so this loop will go on and on… till one party is weeded out and we all know might is right … 🙂 accept facts of real world i know my opinion may be flawed in long run where you will argue might may be right but this will create alienation among losing party and they will be drawn into extremism further.. well then can’t you see thats the aim of state around the globe.. idealism doesn’t work..look in Europe particularly Germany where refugee create havoc during new year celebration misbehaving with their women …

          • Did Hamas violence exist before Israel displayed its aggression by expanding its territories?
Modern day terrorism literally originated from Israel’s aggressive expansionism. Short-sighted quick-fixes by western powers have now culminated into a global menace. And we want to participate in it by saying “might is right”?

We would not have won our independence had everyone kept following the “might is right” policy!

        • you are funny enough egg came or chicken …. hAMAS IS DESIGNATED TERRORIST ENTITY. DEAL WITH IT ! Israel is sovereign nation . and regarding our independence i would like to remind my fellow brother ( as constitution says so ) that dear peace dove don’t compare apple with oranges!

          • Again side-stepping by repeating same arguments? Fact is Israel’s aggressive expansionism is the root cause of Hamas violence and new-age global terrorism.

Why didn’t you like example of Indian independence? Anyway, there are numerous other stories of little Davids winning against mighty Goliaths. So “might is right” is bunkum.

        • DAVID VS GOLIATH IN FICTION I TOLD YOU I DON’T AGREE IN BRINGING RELIGION IN CONTEXT of this Israel and hamas . might is always right if you stop looking at fiction

          • I am talking about real life stories / examples of underdogs winning a tough fight against mighty opponents. Not about mythology, fiction or religion!

  6. Finally, India’s foreign policy is serving its own interests instead of sucking up to others. No civilized nation can stand with a terrorist organization disguising as human rights org. Good riddance.

  7. Good move. Palestine has no qualms voting against us on Kashmir. It is time we recognized our interests and acted accordingly.

  8. Bravo. It took Modi to set decades of blunder right. The Muslim world always voted against us on Kashmir in OIC, helped terrorism in India. But want out vote in UN. Israel always helped us but we screw them. I hope that from now we always support Israel and dump OIC nations to where they belong: gutter

  9. fantastic let us hope that the course correction will be the first of many steps to support our true friends Israel

  10. Really unfortunate. One community controlling the whole world, considers the gentiles to be worst than animals. Do gentiles know this? But stooges are there, and that’s how they will rule the world. The Oppressor becomes victim, and makes the victim as the culprit. We leave the rest with the Lord…

    • But gentiles also know that one community considers Kaffirs has no right practice his faith and only choice is accept “True faith” or die. The community has practiced that idea where it is sufficient in numbers, such as Pakistan.

  11. This is horrible. Ignoring the weak n poor and siding with powerful n rich is not Dharma. India could have abstained. Just like Kashmir, Israel is also unfinished business of Colonial powers.

    • Israel (Judaea and Samaria) has a three thousand plus year old Jewish history replete with archeological proof. Islam was not even a religion at that point, Israel is one tiny democratic Jewish country surrounded by over fifty hostile Arab Muslim countries and has every right to exist. India and Israel have a common enemy, Islamic terrorism.

  12. NDA’s Foreign Policy is correct and very dynamic.India wants to buy s-400,which shows NDA has National Interest in mind,.With the OIC trying to interfere in Kashmir with no locus standi and with China being pro-Pakistan, India cannot afford to be ISOLATED and helpless.Actions with National Interest as priority are the need of the hour.Kudos NDA!

      • Hope one day you will regret for this but that time you will remain hopeless. Israelis took over Palestinian land and now calling actual owners terrorist bcoz they are defending their land.

I wish one day someone kick out you from your home and you feel that pain and when you react police put you in jail and call you criminal. I wish this you face in this life.

      • Shri Ashok didn’t say ‘unfortunate’ when OIC brought up Kashmir. Perhaps he thinks Kashmir should go to Pakistan and Jews should be thrown out of the middle-east region. The undercurrent of the ‘clash of civilisations’ is not because of India; we are just forced to participate because of hostile Islamic expansionist agenda. But perhaps these issues are beyond Shri Ashok’s comprehension.

        • New India – true to its nature – sides with the oppressor and supports them in calling the oppressed terrorists – and hounds those who call this out!

          • another nut case you are dim wit gundya ya gaanda bhau!!! unaware of realpolitik only high on emotive factor . by siding with Israel India did it correct a long over due .

          • so mr gundya left winger put on wing and fly to heaven abode and lecture this peace … without understanding the granular matter you are in habit of making sweeping statement and generalization coloring me as right winger .. when to me ideologies are nothing but place for scoundrel solace. to me i am practical and realist .. thats it… i dont give damn to religion .. it should remain one’s personal matter

          • Have you lost it? The right-winger comment is response to someone else!

Good thing is, I can see consensus at least in second part of your comment above.

          • apologize for thinking you are tagging me into this left right winger thing … my mistake. but yeah i too agree on your few points but the overtly peaceful things that you want won’t happen we need iron grip then when this mayhem subsidizes peace can be given chance.

          • Agree to disagree.
Generally, it is iron grip that leads to mayhem. Rulers from Iran, China, KSA, North Korea are maintaining an iron grip. But they are bound to blow up one day – like USSR, Venezuela, Syria did.

          • All right winger extremists – whether among Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Jews, Jains, etc. – have only one agenda. Hate the “others”. Hate for others drives their thought process more than anything else. They even support & celebrate killings of innocents, just because they are from the “other” community.
I hope right wingers from all sides be brave enough to confront each other directly than targeting the innocents, fight and destroy each other. It will be peaceful once all right wingers disappear from the earth.

    • again nut case is blabbering here you are fossil remnant of non alignment era ashok . what india did is called realpolitik and its right waiting to be done and long over due.

        • you have lost your brain .NATION’s interest COMES FIRST AND ALWAYS . OPPRESSOR CUT THE CRAP . they are hardened ideological buffoon. stop your fossilized idealism no one give a damn to it.

        • you have lost your mind. nation’s interest first and always . they are not oppressor but due to your emotive alignment and colored vision you see them as innocent but the fact is they are outrageous inhuman flock who are neck deep in hatred ideology

          • Labels like “outrageous, inhuman, neck deep in hatred ideology” can, at most, be attributed to individuals, not whole population. It only shows how prejudiced we have become and hence are not capable of clear thinking! It is hatred that is spewing such comments more than any so called “national interest”.

        • you have lost it! Israel is not oppressor. the fact is they are suffering the worst poisoned flock ie hammas and all those who adhere to those poisonous religious ideology they are curse on the face of earth . unwanted weed which has to be eventually weeded out. stop sining tunes of your leftist crap ideology .. realpolitik has ruled the globe smell the coffee

          • It is hatred that is making you write such non-sense! If selfish “realpolitik” is ruling the globe, it’s a matter of shame! Same selfishness has brought the globe on the verge of climate-catastrophe, trade wars, xenophobia and other such distastes. We are expected to be more mature in 21st century than medieval periods.

        • stop your pacifism didn’t work wont work never ever your thought is good for nothing its mere lofty ideals as if Palestinian are saints and Israel is demon incarnation it takes two to tango. realpolitik will work deal with it mr. gundya . you are nothing but champion of doom day theory saying diametrically opposite thing who told you national interest is equivalent to xenophobia ??? this is a problem with leftist or any ideologies to twist and turn any term at their whims and fancy. national interest is simply survival of my nation among comity of nations. and surely poisonous hamass which is anti zionist.

          • So peace is a dooms day theory for you? This narrow mindedness has brought us to where we are on many issues. If peace is really out of fashion, the world desperately needs a reboot and those who cannot get over pride of religion, nation, race etc. (into which they were born by mere chance) need a format of their brain.

Btw, thanks for acknowledging that it takes two to tango. Israeli aggressors and those retaliating them, both are two sides of same coin and not fit to tango. They should die fighting or step away, so that forward-thinking people can take over the dialog and find a peaceful resolution.

        • you keep singing tune of your idealism doesn’t work in hard nosed international politics . keep singing dear peace dove 🙂 and keep twisting my simple term to serve your purpose which is nothing but a mirage

          • Peace is the realism! Peace is the realpolitik! Everything we do to brush it aside comes back and hounds us in some way or other. We cannot disregard peace as being idealistic to hide our phobias and prejudices!

        • you keep living in la la land ..nothing against your opinion but pretty sad your opinion doesn’t seems to work world over

          • Aiming for la la land is still better than pushing for continuous cycle of conflict. Peace is the only practical and realistic solution. World war-I gave rise to Nazis, Nazi atrocities in turn caused Israel, Israel’s aggression resulted in terrorism and then – other retaliatory attacks. The only way out is to oppose this violent cycle and support peace.

        • utter rubbish Israel is not fountainhead of terrorism …you keep repeating twisted view just to suit your appetite for dislike of Israel then so be it. its not Israel which made human bomb A.K.A. FIDAYEEN if you are so much into peace peace peace and so influenced by Indian peaceful independent movement … then why the hellhole middle eastern didn’t opt for civil disobedience instead of rabid hatred and killing mayhem

          • Agree with the last statement.
I don’t dislike Israel or Israelis. They didn’t make human bombs. But backed by mighty US, Israel govt has continued to occupy territories despite UN disapproval – which gave rise to fidayeen terrorism.

        • btw i feel you are gentle soul and you held peace very near and dear to you brother but the fact is that in realpolitik peace only comes after cataclysmic event … thats irony of human intelligence its not what you or i think is correct its the way the power plays out in fickle manner … you or many may try but the fact is until unless humans hit rock bottom they seldom gain sense .. all atrocities are unfair but religion plus politics is deadly combo … well this too will pass as communism did ..thats why i dislike ideology… we should be sane enough humane enough but you see like a rainbow there are different kind of people as subjects and also in position of power … you and me can hope that may the better sense prevail … but fact is this will keep on going many vested interested are involved

          • Hope better sense prevails *before* we hit rock bottom. In a globalized world of 21st century, we should be wiser enough to resolve issues in non-hostile manner and should not get bogged down by short-sighted power calculations, vested interests or past failures to resolve issues peacefully.

        • hope is dope my friend. anyway nice to have conversation with you though i agree to disagree on several points of yours but then thats the beauty of conversation we learn we unlearn. at the end no one is expert we may all try for best … but this globalization is haphazard region wise for its unevenness few ppl in power raise it as something which will takeaway your job and livelihood. in short we human live in imperfect world we have to sail through … all depends how we weather the tsunami or get subsumed in vortex this will depend on our ability to look beyond smog screen.

          • Agree most part here.

When you get a chance, listen to this (Israeli) historian Yuval Harari and his views on “Nationalism vs. globalism” and how he pitches for a “global government” to tackle global / international issues:
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szt7f5NmE9E

Hope is what keeps us afloat!

        • i have read one or two of the author you mentioned .. particularly “sapiens: a brief history of humankind. and i will watch the link that you mentioned. to me he appears telling nothing new don’t take me as arrogant he is way more knowledgeable than i am. what i can conclude from him is that we are evolving being socially politically it will go on refinement and crudeness will go hand in hand until unless every single person will feel empowered financially, politically, socially ( esp especially in case of INDIA),EDUCATION (NOT THE ROTE LEARNING BUT ONE WHICH TRULY ASSIST A PERSON TO LOOK BEYOND HIS RELIGION, CASTE AND REGIONAL ) . AS i m sure u will acknowledge our democracy is weighed down since independence on vote bank anti vote bank this caste that caste .. leaders will raise hullabaloo and the common man is taken for ride. our village need to made aware of their priority is not religion or caste but economic and political freedom this two will add up to assert them socially. i abhor particularly regional political party they have messed up .. they are crooked by saying so i don’t mean the grand old party and resurgent bjp are angel . in short brother politics in India is so messed up regarding global governance bro more or less that is their through WTO AND MNC ETC but look how EU is crumbling . sometimes i feel its all economics if its hail and hearty no one shouts i want this or that no unrest nothing .. so economy is the key to peace or may be most important part of it. sorry if i appear to be incoherent

          • Yes. Sustainable economic growth + equality / equity is the key to peace.

Unfortunately, caste imbalance is real and exists in more ways (many times unintentional) than we understand – which gives rise to caste based politics. Same with religious identities. Identity politics has had limited success in bridging the imbalance. We need mainstream parties implement affirmative actions more open-heartedly. This will avoid intensifying of identity politics.

        • tough nut to break there so many boulders … hope we have had only rich and poor problem …but this differences will remain on many levels .. see for example ivy league elite vs working class of America.. (i hope you might be aware of how elites there tried to game the admission system to get their kids in ivy league) in so called land of opportunity ie USA. those who still get through this lopsided system those new pass out from ivy league struggle as they have no one in that strata of society .. so in usa its black vs white ..ivy league pass out elite vs common American aspiring to break glass ceiling . (only good thing is that their leftist ideology is not that profound) but here in India we have rich vs poor and then this malignant tumor of caste and add to it religion and then pseudo intellectual who live in ivory towers their apathy and looking down upon Indian culture had led to such mess that now what is shown as Indian culture is nothing but PR management . its leftist who abhor Hindu religion to such an extent that had made them hypocrites(surely they may have their heart at right place but to browbeat one culture and look down upon their opponent with disdain closes room for civil discussion). left ideologies for all its hubris and romanticism might attract students youth and those who suffer at the hand of society. but if they want to be positive they have to maintain equidistant from religion and culture and also they have to be equivocal in criticism of all nut cases individual groups etc be it from hindu, islam, christinaity … but they have failed in that .. its big reason i hate ideology … because to me what i can conclude is that this intelligent rascal can only preach and debate but can’t integrate nation and national interest are nor in their heart. by looking down upon one set of people one can never integrate nation and same is case with right wing ideology they do the vice versa . IN short we need to evolve and look through this smog screen its albatross around our’s neck which is certainly impeding our growth economically . you know what we are barking up at wrong tree .. see laws won’t change until thugs are in parliament (its been like this be it UPA OR NDA). how can we expect one of them will bell the cat when they (most of them) are willing partner in crime to keep law subservient to suit their cause and kitty .
