If Rujuta’s advice was just that mangoes are great and diabetics should not avoid them, that I could agree with to a point However, she almost never makes mention of eating a good amount of vegetables, which is what most people generally fall short of eating. People automatically think that everyone advocates low carb and that automatically means keto. No, the majority of people eat way way more carbohydrates than their body needs. I am from India and have been around people in the older generation. They often have conditions like diabetes, and or high blood pressure. Most of the elderly people I see are not energetic and usually need help walking around. Why is this? Strength training is almost unheard of especially in our grandmothers generation. If you don’t work those muscles and strengthen them, all the dal rice and ghee in the world will not help you. You have to maintain good muscle mass and protein is necessary for this. Protein such as eggs, paneer, lean meats if not vegetarian, should be part of a balanced diet. All Rujuta talks about is rice, rotis, laddus, rice, high gi fruits like bananas, mangoes, etc. What happened to berries, oranges, kiwi? Just because a food is not local does not mean you have to avoid them. Her advice is horrible and she misleads millions of people and makes money off of it. Wish I had taken a 1 yr course in nutrition and minted money like her – at least I would provide sensible advice.
Funny.. watch her videos where she tells muscle should be maintained and strengthened.. which is what u also say.. don’t comment with ignorance..

Metabolism is different in everybody. it depends on how each one of us utilizes our own glucose. Diabetes is second step but the first step is insulin resistivity. And is very preliminary stage before type II diabetes. So not Rujuta by following common diet but nobody can manage anybody’s sugar with 1 or 2 common pills. As Dr. Kamini says, even the allopathic medicines can not work for all. Certainly allopathic medicines are NOT the solution. So to cure diabetes we have to increase insulin sensitivity which depends on some biochemical pathways and that how nature or our body does it right from our mothers womb. Some of the elements are Potassium, Vanadium and the mechanism is Glut4 activation. More is given in MBBS text books but unfortunately that part is NOT taken seriously by Doctors and then learned to MANAGE the symptoms. Right from our birth to our mid age, if our body manages sugar then what happens when we are diabetic? Certainly we are NOT giving the RAW materials to the body to do so.

I HAVE COMMENTED NUMEROUS TIMES ON RUJUTA’S BLOG ON HER SWEEPING STATEMENTS THAT EVERYTHING INDIAN GRANDMAS ATE SUITS ALL INDIANS. I AM A DIABETIC FOR 14 YEARS AND INITIALLY BLINDLY BELEIVED IN ALL THE BULLSHIT WHICH UNSCRUPLOUS NUTRITIONISTS LIKE HER PEDAL. IT WAS AFTER I STARTED CHECKING MY BLOOD BEFORE AND AFTER MEALS DID I REALISE THE DEVASTATING EFFECT OF GRANDMAS MEALS ON MY BLOOD SUGAR. I EAT ONLY UNPOLISHED AND ORGANIC RICE AND CEREALS AND YET TO MY DIAMAY FOUND THAT IDLIS, KHICHDIS, DALS MAKE MY BLOOD SUGAR SOAR LIKE A KITE REACHING DANGEROUS LEVELS OF 300 AND ABOVE EVEN WOTH GHEE. EVERY INDIVIDUAL’S SYSTEM IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS AND SUCH CALLOUSLY MADE STATEMENTS CAN RUIN PEOPLES HEALTH.
I HOPE RUJUTA INTROSPECTS AND GROWS A CONSCIENCE AND STOPS PEDALLING UNSUBSTANTIATED CLAIMS IN PUBLIC. HER DRAMATIC AND FILMI STYLE (WHICH SHE PROBABLY ACQUIRED FROM KAREENA KAPOOR) IMPRESSES PEOPLE WHO TAKE WHAT SHE SPEWS AS GOSPEL TRUTH BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE ARE TOTALLY UNAWARE OF NUTRITION AND SCIENCE OF FOOD AND WOULD READILY TAKE HER ADVICE GIVEN FREE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS HER PRIVATE CHARGES ARE EXORBITANT. SOMETIMES I WONDER WHETHER SHE GIVES THIS KIND OF WRONG ADVICE BECAUSE ITS FREE .
First things first, doctors for the most part are BSers. Till the start of the 20th century, you had a greater chance of a doctor killing you than a disease doing the honors. Grandma’s wisdom >>>> BS nutrition advice given by anyone. The reason- it works. Mangoes are native to India and have been around for more than diabetes. Optimizing one parameter (blood sugar, cholestrol etc etc) almost always leads to some other vital parameter being affected. Idiot doctors who don’t understand systems thinking or understand complex systems give bad or wrong advice. Simple advice to everyone would be, eat what you like, trust your grandma over your doctor/nutrion expert, never try to optimize one parameter but have an overall healthy life, live with the understanding that you will go one day or the other and most importantly, if you have to drink green tea to live for hundred years, you might as well die at 50.
