Supreme Court of India is facing an institutional crisis. Last year’s press conference by the four judges had exposed internal fissures. Now, sexual harassment charge against CJI Gogoi, the court’s handling and subsequent conspiracy theories have muddled things further. The court’s wisdom and courage are under watch, and on test.
Udit Raj is not the first leader BJP has managed to alienate
BJP MP Udit Raj’s defection to the Congress, a day after the denial of ticket to contest elections, is sheer political opportunism. But it also underscores the BJP’s inability to offer opportunities for growth to its Dalit leaders, a number of whom have quit the party in recent times.
It is good that supreme court and its judges have the heat of law & right or wrong allegation. They will realise the agony of common people while facing court proceedings. I have full respect for our judiciary and am proud of it.
Is it really a crisis or an eyewash for demeaning the office of The CJI by some typical long time Congress like self centered party? If this be the way our country and the oldest political party works, be sure we are doomed, sooner than expected.
As a matter of fact, it is not the institution but the crooks and conspirators are in crisis having begun digging their graves. Everyone knows the crooks only they have to be judicially brought to book. One day their pictures will be splashed over the newspapers.
By entrusting this enquiry to his senior most colleague – who has very wisely widened it to three members – CJI Ranjan Gogoi has subjected himself to an Agni Pareeksha. He can do no more. It is now for the Committee to ascertain the truth and for the complainant to participate without any reservation or diffidence in the proceedings. The media for its part can afford to lower the flame, not allow a serious fact finding mission to become like a tabloid story.
