Goa’s slow response to Covid throws spotlight on conflict of interest of its MLAs

ThePrint investigation into Goa ministers, MLAs having business interests in tourism and the state’s delayed response to Covid’s second wave exposes a worrying conflict of interest. Protecting lives and livelihoods is a difficult balance. But no justification is acceptable if lawmakers put personal business interests above the larger public good.

Suspension not enough. Chhattisgarh IAS officer should be fired, else it’ll be a travesty

The Chhattisgarh IAS officer’s suspension isn’t enough punishment for slapping a hapless citizen visiting his ailing relative. A blot on service, he should, instead, be fired under the Constitution’s Article 311. But given how the civil services protect their own, he may escape when pressure eases. It’ll be a travesty.
