The Chhattisgarh IAS officer’s suspension isn’t enough punishment for slapping a hapless citizen visiting his ailing relative. A blot on service, he should, instead, be fired under the Constitution’s Article 311. But given how the civil services protect their own, he may escape when pressure eases. It’ll be a travesty.
