No one should believe the fairy tale that the Gandhi family is the glue that binds the Congress party together. Far more liability now than an asset. The party and the nation have given the family so much, in gratitude for the services of Pandit Nehru and Mrs Gandhi. From Rajiv Gandhi onwards, diminishing returns have set in. There are intelligent, strong-willed leaders like MMS, Shashi Tharoor, Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, who can walk out of the party like Scindia did. WHY DON’T THEY? Why do they unanimously say ‘rahul is our leader’, even though Rahul has quit his position of party president a long time ago? wouldn’t you therefore say it is the party that is sticking to the family, rather than the other way round? And if so, then you should blame these leaders for not leaving the party!
