Maharashtra has a CM and a deputy but neither has political authority as they’re yet to demonstrate clear legislative majority. The Supreme Court should order an urgent floor test to end this charade. There’s an all-round failure of political morality and it’s time to stamp constitutional propriety on the state.

  1. The apex court’s judgment has helped bring closure to a very tawdry chapter. We can hope the ratio of this judgment will be seen as the law of the land, deter adventurism for the future.

  2. A floor test has been conducted at the Grand Hyatt hotel, and the whole world has seen it on their TV screens. 162 out of 288 newly elected MLAs present, swearing fealty to their party chiefs. Not one has fallen prey to the blandishments supposedly on offer. My heart tells me the apex court will tomorrow order a floor test to be conducted on Wednesday.
