Rahul Gandhi has chosen the worst time to undermine Uddhav Thackeray-led government in Maharashtra by distancing the Congress from its pandemic management. Saying his party is playing only a supporting role betrays his long-held grudge against the coalition with Shiv Sena. He is hurting a gain won by outsmarting BJP.

CM Yogi Adityanath has imperilled the livelihood options of lakhs of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh with his declaration that a state wishing to employ them must take permission from his government. This is impractical, irrational and self-defeating. Adityanath must give up this grandstanding and politics of regionalism and bravado.

  2. The statement strikes at the heart of collective responsibility of the Cabinet and also coalition dharma. The Gandhi family’s heart was never in this somewhat unconventional coalition. It came into being only due to the experience and networking skills gained by SP over half a century in public life. Without his steadying hand, Maharashtra will go the Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh way.
