The murderous Maoist attack on a Doordarshan crew covering Chhattisgarh elections and the policemen escorting it is another reminder of their malevolence. Terrorism can’t be camouflaged as any ideological or revolutionary fantasy. It’s also a reminder to Maoists’ romantic, overground sympathisers that no “root causes” can justify any terrorism.

Delhi HC order on Hashimpura massacre restores faith in rule of law

Delhi High Court’s reversal of the scandalous trial court order acquitting 16 former policemen for the Hashimpura massacre in Uttar Pradesh deserves praise. It restores the faith, especially among minorities, in the rule of law. It’s a high point when Indians can feel proud of their judicial system.

Govt-RBI tension is okay, but it needs to be managed constructively

The government’s effort to calm tensions with the RBI is evident, and welcome. Intellectual and institutional tensions are healthy. But these must be managed constructively. We’d hope that is being done now. It will be tragic if the government still forced the issue using the ‘section 7’ sledge-hammer.
