India’s own Covaxin demonstrating 81% interim efficacy is welcome news. Although Bharat Biotech is a company of repute, this announcement by the firm should be quickly followed by publication in an independent journal. That will help end all doubts considering the controversy that had been sparked over its emergency approval.

With 75% private sector job reservation, Haryana mixing desperate politics with bad economics

Haryana’s reservation of 75 per cent private sector jobs for local workforce is a terrible direction to put the economy on, and will only embolden Noida-Greater Noida’s rise. India’s labour mobility is already low, and parochial politics mustn’t shackle industry. Haryana, like others, is mixing desperate politics with bad economics.

Adityanath calling out women’s safety in Bengal is rich. Headlines from UP say it all

UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s claim that Bengal has failed to provide security to its women, is rich. He should look in the mirror and read the headlines of horrific crimes against women in UP every other day. This can be good politics only after Adityanath addresses the problem at home.

  1. Wonderful. Secretary Renu Swarup, in an interview to ToI, said that five more vaccines are at the stage of human trials. 2. There should not be any shortage of doses, even if the public and private programmes are speeded up enormously. More institutions, small clinics in fact, should be permitted to offer this service. The process of registration which stumps people far more tech savvy than me could be dispensed with. A more liberal approach to pricing for the private programme, say $ 5 – 6, would help.

  2. On a scale of Statesmanship, this idea is on par with extending reservations to the private sector. 2. Relocating large industry, like the Maruti facility, is a complex task. All the more with land acquisition a major hassle. However, the service sector jobs Haryana has attracted depend on the quality of human talent and can easily relocate. To Noida, as the Edit fears, or even further afield. 3. Of the many promises that have fallen by the wayside, two crore new jobs each year is the most poignant. India’s demographic dividend is melting away. Expect more such initiatives.

  3. CM Ajay Bisht is the ultimate Teflon man. Nothing seems to disturb his equanimity. Many within the fraternity see him as the next king.
