New Delhi: Fight with words only. This is what Maye Musk, mother of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, had to say about the ‘cage match’ challenge between the Twitter owner and Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg.

“No joking. Fight with words only. In armchairs. 4 feet apart. The funniest person wins,” tweeted Maye.

The two most powerful billionaires of the tech industry, Musk and Zuckerberg, Thursday said they wanted to fight each other in a cage match. And it all started when Musk replied to a tweet that said Meta was developing a Twitter rival.

“I’m up for a cage match if he is lol (sic),” tweeted Musk.

Zuckerberg then fired back by posting an Instagram story — overlaid with Musk’s tweet — in which he said “send me location”.

The conversation between the two tech giants did not stop at this.

Musk later replied to a tweet about the ‘fight’ by Alex Heath, editor at technology news website The Verge, saying “Vegas Octagon”. It was a reference to the competition arena for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in Las Vegas.

In a separate tweet, the Tesla CEO also said, “I have this great move that I call ‘The Walrus’, where I just lie on top of my opponent & do nothing (sic).”

Musk even tweeted a few short videos of ‘the Walrus’ and went on to say, “I almost never work out, except for picking up my kids & throwing them in the air (sic).”

Twitter users have since debated the proposed ‘duel’ between the two tech giants. One user by the name ‘Wall Street Silver’ posted memes and funny videos showing what a bout between Musk and Zuckerberg would look like.

When asked for a confirmation on the ‘fight’ by The Verge, Meta Spokesperson Iska Saric said, “The story speaks for itself.”

Zuckerberg, 39, is 12 years younger to the Tesla CEO who is soon to turn 52 next month. The Meta owner has been training in Brazilian jiu jitsu for the past 18 months and has recently won an amateur tournament.

In an interview with the BBC, fight sports journalist Nick Peet was quoted saying that UFC President Dana White would be eager on the possibility of the bout. When asked who he would support, Peet just gave a confident nod to Zuckerberg winning the bout.

According to reports, the Meta owner had, earlier this month, held discussions with his staff on launching a text-based social media platform to compete with Twitter. This upcoming project by Meta goes by the working name of P92.
