Bulgaria will no longer be a part of the so-called coalition of the willing, a group of nations that support Ukraine against Russian aggression, according to Prime Minister Rumen Radev.
The move puts the Balkan country further away from the majority of European Union countries backing Ukraine.
Radev, an outspoken critic of military aid to Ukraine, has repeatedly rejected accusations of taking Russia’s stance in the war, saying he’s in favor of “pragmatic” relations with the Kremlin.
Bulgaria, which has taken part in previous meetings of the coalition, didn’t have a representative at a gathering on Monday in Paris.
“We’re not participating in a coalition that insists on continuing financial and military aid to Ukraine,” he told reporters Tuesday. “The solution to this conflict is not in prolonging it by military means, but in a strong diplomatic mission that will finally put an end to the escalation.”
