Officials in India and Pakistan are drawing up an agenda for a return to dialogue. And it seems the powerful Pakistani establishment is onboard for now.
The world watched aghast as police armed with tasers, tear-gas masks—and in one case backed up by snipers—arrested hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters at universities across the United States.
Germany’s erstwhile Christian Democratic Union govt, led by Angela Merkel, prevented sale of small arms to police forces in states they perceived had ‘bad human rights record’.
A theme has not yet emerged for BJP & people see lack of a contest, which makes it unexciting. For all these reasons, 2024 is turning out to be an unexpectedly theme-less election.
Modi is a fast learner. He never repears the same mistake. For us Xi and Putin important. Pakistan is not independant of china. We should trade more with China and show we are trying to understand them. But dont trust them. Pakistan will be set. India China relations matter more than pakistan india relations. Pakistan confidence goes down Terrorism can be answered by Balakot only why talk to them. Harm us,we harm you
Jyoti seems to be making up stories. There is no need nor there is any proposal for a meeting between Modi and Imran next month. Of course, they will meet and greet and exchange pleasantries. That’s it. Unless Pakistan stops terrorist activities from its soil, India should not have anything to do with Pak. We have nothing to do with Pak economy being in doldrums nor we need to worry about how to eradicate poverty there. Pak can do it by renouncing terrorism and putting army in barracks. Modi should not fall in the trap of Pakistan who will use improved relations with India for building up its capacity so that it can harm us later.
Don’t peddle fake narrative, the MOFA already cleared that there will be no bilateral meeting between our two countries, handshake might be difficult, only a group photo with the SCO is mostly expected, So don’t give fake happiness to our neighbours
It would appear that Modi is set to repeat the mistakes of his predecessors. Just remember how Vajpayee’s magnanimous trip to Lahore was returned with the Kargil misadventure. Pakistan must take irreversible steps to indicate that they are done destabilizing India. Turning over Dawood Ibrahim or the Mumbai masterminds could be a symbol that would generate trust. We are long past words.
It has become the nature of the relationship that the two cousins meet only in exotic places like Bishkek, which I would struggle to find on the map. Or in a cold hotel suite in New York. There is absolutely no justification for there to be no formal dialogue – alternately in each other’s country – between the two sides. A dangerous Cold War is unfolding between the United States and China, with Russia in tow. The sort of situation – although the world has changed a lot in the interim – which induced India to opt for non alignment. Our interests are not always aligned, on all issues, with the US. Buying oil from Iran, or weapons from Russia, to give just two examples. A reset to China is also necessary. India needs to perform better economically at home, absent which the global role it aspires to is unattainable. Equally, it’s foreign policy needs more nuance and possibly fewer frequent flier miles.
