On 9 July 1991, then-PM PV Narasimha Rao addressed the nation days before the Budget presentation, admitting that the job of repairing India's sick economy won't be easy, quick, or smooth.
Air India’s new policy, effective from 2 May, introduces new weight limits for tickets in each of the different 'fare families' — Comfort, Comfort Plus, and Flex.
New Delhi has, in past, too, objected to Chinese construction activities in Shaksgam Valley. Work in this strategic region gathered pace after the 2017 Doklam stand-off.
A theme has not yet emerged for BJP & people see lack of a contest, which makes it unexciting. For all these reasons, 2024 is turning out to be an unexpectedly theme-less election.
I am perplexed by the phenomenon involed in the ‘Me Too’ against Bishop Franco. A nun has revealed how she was repeatedly raped by this bishop. The police has made investigations and found that the complaint was prima facie true. He spent some time in jail and when he was released on bail, is welcomed like a hero returning victorious from the battle front. His colleague bishops of Kerala say that he is innocent and they exhort church members to pray for him. As of now the church is standing firmly in support of the man. Does it mean that the Catholic Church has no shame?
This is just madness, this mob driven justice system will sooner or later come back only to nail down our women folks big-time…I am worried…just imagine 10 bullies coming together to shame your daughters, daughter-in-law, mother… This is anything but feminism…
“Me Too SUFFERED” gradually changed to “Me too SPOKE”. Since the first batch of confessors found some traction, the later batches “joined the bandwagon”. Among them were some additional shy, reluctant, BUT GENUINE cases who could muster courage only now; there were also some BROUHAHA types, “making a mountain out of a molehill” now when they saw the listeners had gathered.
I want to congratulate the author of this article for noticing the contradictory reaction from the “feminists”. She is a sessoned journalist so obviously must have kept a close tab on stories as they unfolded, unlike casual newspaper readers like me who “notice some, miss some” (and also don’t understand some).
My first reaction is: the females she is calling “feminists” were not really “feminists” to begin with. In our country at the highest levels and at the most enlightened levels we have to be careful of the “pretenders”. WE ALL COME FROM VERY SECURE HOMES; WE ALL HAVE COZY, STRAITJACKET THINKING. That’s why I’ll say we Indians LACK ORIGINALITY and therefore creativity. (Divorces and resultant unhappy and insecure childhoods have started happening only in last 20-30 years.)
There are not many hardcore feminists; most are of “chalta hai” variety in varying degrees. This comment can grow tiresomely long. I’ll try to wind up. I will beg for permission from THE PRINT to allow me to quote from my own comment in this ME TOO series:
“…AFTER this “MeToo” against someone in THE U.S.A., ..the movement touched a chord in India. If this sequence of confessions or revelations had originated in ISRAEL, or even ICELAND, would it have “touched a chord in India”?
“It is this continued slavishness to “the affluent part of the West” that is truly embarrassing. Half the stuff reported here is fake — I am sure about it without knowing the truth!”
That was my very first comment in the series. I have given various comments on this subject on this very platform in last ten days or so. No body would have read all or would remember all (thank god!), but if someone were to accuse me of being confused or speaking in two tongues or being a turncoat etc, I swear upon God I won’t know how to defend myself. But for the moment, kudos to this writer; I’m fully with her; “all feminists are not feminists”. (Some are very feminine, behaving otherwise because it’s fashionable to be a feminist.)
One would support both initiatives. A conviction from a court of law for a sex related crime is information that should automatically be available to law enforcement authorities nationally. Given the epidemic of violence against women, it should also be in the public domain, not so much to shame the convict as to use the information as a preventive measure. On Me Too, so far the information that is flowing out seems to be predominantly genuine, women are acting with a sense of responsibility. Even here, greater rigour, some more cross checking and verification, would strengthen the movement.

We are already heading the 4thIR. Prayagraj is our latest contribution!
