Dr. S. Jaishankar is a diplomat-turned-politician who has served as India’s External Affairs Minister since 2019. He is a member of the BJP and a member of parliament representing Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha.
Dr. Jaishankar had earlier served as India’s foreign secretary between 2015-2018, after serving as ambassador to the United States, China, and the Czech Republic and as high commissioner to Singapore. He is well known for his assertive speeches and comments in the international media, such as the one when he addressed the UN, advocating for India’s permanent membership in the UNSC. Jaishankar is said to have played a major role in negotiating the India-US civil nuclear agreement. He has authored over three books, including ‘The India Way’ and ‘Why Bharat Matters’.
In 2019, he was conferred with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour in the country.
Most powerful man or leader in the world is Modi then comes Trump & Putin..But both are now afraid with NSA Doval….
What about the 100000 Kashmiris the Indians have murdered in the last 30 years or were they not human
The former master spy Doval has all along been Modi’s Man Friday. He shares Modi’s right wing ideology. The same cannot be said of Jaishankar. As Foreign Minister he will function as a glorified Foreign Secretary who follows his master’s bidding. He will not share the same bond that Doval has with the PM.
Question to the author of this article: who will take care of Kulbhushan Jadhav? That’s a long time since we do not talk about him anymore?
One must draw a distinction between thoughtful formulation of foreign policy and high visibility global diplomacy. A Joint Secretary with twenty odd years of service and a decade ahead of him contributes to the former. He has access to the entire institutional memory of MEA, especially for challenges of long standing like Pakistan and China. I don’t think someone sitting in that chair would have recommended the blockade of Nepal at a time when it was coping with the effects of an earthquake and winter was setting in. 2. India’s relationship with the United States is in terrible shape … While friends and foes are still struggling to deal constructively with President Trump, what does this tell us about the successes of Indian diplomacy ? In fact, the excessive courting of America, at the cost of other valued relationships, was in itself a failing. The formal structures of government can sometimes seem to be a constraint. They have been erected and modified with care and foresight. There is nothing in the record of the last five years – in foreign policy, the economy, or elsewhere – to suggest that alternate mechanisms are delivering wonderful results.
