Piloting triple talaq law, removing J&K special status and bulldozing through CAA in first few months as home minister, Amit Shah stamps his own mark on Modi government.
Facing massive backlash in India & abroad, Modi says his govt doesn’t do politics of discrimination, tells protesters to burn his effigy but not public property.
Sadaf Jafar was the only woman out of 150 persons arrested for the 19 December violence in Lucknow. Her sister has alleged she was beaten up mercilessly.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said the BJP government will have to quit if it fails such a "mass vote" over the amended Citizenship Act and the proposed nationwide NRC.
The proposed amendment to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code aims to reduce timelines and provide for a mechanism that involves minimal interaction with the court. It fails on both counts.
Open to public feedback until 26 November, the revised guidelines, among other changes, give CA firms more flexibility to advertise & promote their services.
Bihar is blessed with a land more fertile for revolutions than any in India. Why has it fallen so far behind then? Constant obsession with politics is at the root of its destruction.
Likeability is an important factor in politics. It is essential to get votes, to get votes for your party candidates and to stick up coalitions of electors. Modi has it, especially from a podium. Amit Shah lacks it. He can never be a vote getter for his party. Thus a liability for BJP as a leader. He is destined to be a number 2 all his life.
Nobody is coming out of any shadow. Modi-Shah will together merge into power darkness very soon. Like a totally inactive Manmohan Singh and a truant Rahul Gandhi handed over the rein to Modi-Shah in 2014 on a platter, the latter are returning the favour now – – with CAA and NRC, Modi-Shah are handing over the rein back to the Congress on a platter!
Even as it scored a landslide victory in May, BJP got just 37% of votes. I’m one of those and a bhakt, but am disappointed by the priorities the government has since set. I’m also saddened by how the government is trying to shield the indefensible NRC behind CAA. Assuming 99% Muslims are able to prove (or buy) their citizenship claim, that would still leave 20 lakh labelled as infiltrators. Will PM Sheikh Hasina take them back? Or will they be incarcerated in detention camps that PM Modi denied blatantly but inaccurately? And if 1% of that 1% get radicalized we are looking at 20,000. PM Modi needs to remove his blinkers soon and get rid of Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath. They will not only take India to an economic abyss but severely dent PM Modi’s and India’s standing in world forums.
The electoral juggernaut is losing steam. Jharkhand is the latest iteration. The economy and India’s global image have sunk. There is ferment on the streets. The government needs to get down to a more productive phase early in its second term. Many have drawn comparisons with how things started unravelling for Mrs Gandhi from about 1972 onwards.
Views of the writer are quite misplaced and formed in a hurry. Everyday Shah’s new follies are coming into light. Gradually B.J.P is going to lose its allies and followers.
