We need outstanding leaders who can contribute to India’s economic development, make us a more equal, just, compassionate society, with credible, autonomous institutions that deepen our democracy. Those leaders can come from left, right or centre, it is better if they are charismatic and articulate, but PM PVNR also got a lot of useful work done. 2. Everyone likes to give advice to a man when he is down. However, 110 million votes is not a bad showing at one’s nadir. Would agree entirely with the columnist that the Congress needs to enrich its gene pool; it is getting a little inbred with embedded dynasties. Think of a charismatic 29 year old woman who beat Prof Somnath Chatterjee in 1984. The party was crazy to let such a leader go.
