DKS goes full ‘North Face’
The American performance brand, ‘NorthFace’ may have a new brand ambassador in Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. The 64-year-old has rearranged quite a few spaces within his new offices to ensure he is always facing north.
“Whatever anyone does, it has to be facing north. I should be facing north,” Shivakumar said before addressing his first cabinet briefing.
The Congressman is extremely spiritual and an ardent believer in astrology. His oath-taking was scheduled for 4:05 pm, as per his astrologer’s advice. Following his swearing-in ceremony, Shivakumar entered the Vidhana Soudha, the seat of power, for the first time as chief minister from the North gate. Inside the Vidhana Soudha’s Conference Hall, the earlier seating arrangements were completely turned on their head. Up until now, anyone briefing the media would sit on the sides closest to the entrance, with the remaining spaces occupied by officials or mediapersons.
A simple Google search states that facing north is highly auspicious as the north is governed by Lord Kubera, the god of wealth. Shivakumar is already the richest MLA–and sitting chief minister –in the country.
One can only wonder what he is gunning for with his new ‘north-facing’ routine.

UP BJP to rope in ‘builder’ MP
BJP Rajya Sabha MP and Uttar Pradesh real estate mogul Sanjay Seth could be roped in to build a plush six-storeyed UP BJP HQ in Lucknow. The BJP recently bought a 5,500-sq km land parcel in Jiamau, in the heart of Lucknow.
The grapevine has it that the party is looking to engage its ‘builder’ MP Seth to finish the project in the next three years. Earlier, there was speculation that the proposed UP BJP HQ might feature a helipad on its rooftop. However, senior UP BJP functionaries have dismissed these suggestions for now.
For Seth, this isn’t his first big project. When associated with the Samajwadi Party, he designed the homes of party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and son Akhilesh. Seth also shares a cordial relationship with Satish Mishra, close aide of Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati.
As an SP leader put it: “Seth sahab kahin bhi rahein, kaam unko wahin milega (no matter which party Seth is with, the work always finds its way to him).”
