‘Truth will defeat Modi, Shah’—at Congress ‘vote chori’ rally, Rahul & Priyanka tear into BJP

New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi Sunday said that while “it may take time”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, whose bravado, he claimed, would vanish once they lose power, would ultimately be defeated by “truth”.

The Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition made the remarks while addressing the Congress’s mega rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against “vote chori”, the party’s ongoing nationwide campaign against the Election Commission and its alleged nexus with the BJP government in “stealing elections”.

“From a six-year-old child to a 90-year-old elderly person, everyone knows that Modi and Shah win polls by stealing votes. It may take time, but truth will prevail in India. Modi and Shah may deliver as many speeches as they want, we will defeat them with truth and non-violence, not violence and hatred,” Rahul said.

The well-attended gathering—with the party’s Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana units mobilising thousands of workers—brought parts of central Delhi to a standstill for hours. The entire Congress top brass and its senior state leaders were in attendance.

In their speeches, many senior Congress leaders, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, made a conscious attempt to boost the flagging morale of party workers and supporters, asserting that they need not be demotivated by electoral defeats in Haryana, Maharashtra and Bihar as “everyone knows how Modi and Shah steal elections”.

Both Rahul and Priyanka also made pointed references to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, asking supporters to remember their names.

“Remember these names, never forget. This country will never forget these names, no matter what arrangements are made to protect them. One day they will have to answer the people about how they conspired to rob you of your voting rights,” Priyanka said.

Echoing his sister, Rahul reiterated his assertion, first made during the discussion on election reforms in the Lok Sabha, that the Congress, upon returning to power, would amend the The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, which grants immunity to the CEC and ECs from legal action for decisions taken while in office.

“I am telling you from this stage, the Congress is telling you, do not forget you are the EC of this country, not of Narendra Modi. We will change this law retroactively and act against you,” Rahul said, accusing the poll watchdog trio of acting in “collusion with the BJP government”.

Rahul also targeted Amit Shah, claiming his hands were “trembling” during the discussion on electoral reforms in Parliament.

“His hands were trembling because they are brave as long as they are in power. The moment they lose power, you will see how this bravado disappears. Observe Modi’s face closely. His confidence has depleted. Even he knows that his vote chori has been caught, and soon the entire country will know that truth,” the Congress MP said.

In her speech, Priyanka also alleged that an “individual in the Prime Minister’s Office” was involved in irregularities related to a betting app. She levelled the charge while speaking on the condition of unemployed youth in the country.

“The youth of this country are reeling under unemployment, price rise, paper leaks and the drug menace, spending entire days on betting apps. And where is this betting app being run from? According to sources, one individual in the Prime Minister’s Office has carried out irregularities in a betting app. Is this discussed in Parliament? Why not? They want us to debate the national song, not unemployment, paper leaks or price rise,” Priyanka said.

She also challenged the BJP to hold elections using paper ballots, a demand she has raised repeatedly lately.

Rahul further attacked RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat over remarks made on Saturday during a public meeting in Port Blair, rechristened as Sri Vijaya Puram, that strength, rather than truth alone, shaped global recognition in present times.

Vishwa satya ko nahi, shakti ko dekhta hai, jiske paas shakti hai, usko maanta hai… bhale mann se nahi, par maanta zaroor hai (the world does not acknowledge only truth; it also acknowledges strength. It may not accept it from the heart, but it does accept it),” news agency PTI quoted Bhagwat as saying.

Rahul said Bhagwat’s line of thinking was not aligned with Hindu philosophy, which recognises truth as supreme. “That is the ideology of Bhagwat and the RSS, and our ideological fight is against them. It is a battle between truth and lies,” Rahul said.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:

  1. There are issues all around. But Raga finds an irrelevant issue and senselessly sticks to it. In this process, he is loosing time which he could use it to attract voters. Whole Indi alliance is going to sink with it along.

  2. What’s the truth? Had Nehru lost 3 times would he be the top man in INC ?

He was much more accountable than RaGa.

Truth can defeat BJP but how many can tell truth to RaGa & survive in INC .

    #Be The Change.

  3. The days of making a non issue as an issue simply by engaging in rallies and propaganda thru paid media are over. Rahul & Priyanka should know this. This duo is the single reason people on fence vote for BJP year after year. Very soon people voting for BHP will cross 50% across Bharat thus shutting down any chances for Congress to win power and mess with Bharat for at least 3-5 decades.

  4. The level of delusion in this man just seems to baffle me sometimes. Again I am asking how did this guy become LOP of this country ? It’s a shame for us.
