Amid meetings with top party leaders, Congress president Rahul Gandhi also sent out an audio message to party members, asking for their inputs on chief ministerial candidates.

New Delhi: Amid hectic deliberations and lobbying for selection of chief ministers in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said Thursday that the party was taking inputs from MLAs and workers and the names will be declared soon.

The potential CM candidates in Rajasthan — Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot — and Madhya Pradesh — Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia — arrived in the city Thursday to meet Gandhi.

The Congress president, who held consultations with party workers at his residence, told reporters: “You will see chief ministers soon. We are taking inputs from MLAs, party workers and others.”

While Gehlot leads the race in Rajasthan, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Pilot is not giving up his claim either and is putting up stiff resistance. In Madhya Pradesh, Nath is considered the front-runner.

Gandhi will first meet party observers A.K. Antony for Madhya Pradesh and K.C. Venugopal for Rajasthan before meeting the CM front-runners.

On Wednesday, the observers held discussions with the newly-elected party MLAs in Jaipur and Bhopal and will give their inputs to Gandhi.

Gandhi had sent an audio message seeking feedback from 7.3 lakh workers across the three states. In the message, Gandhi says: “I want to ask you a vital question: Who should be the chief minister? Please mention just one name. I’m the only person who would know whom you are naming. No one in the party will know. Please speak after the beep.”

  1. Even if symbolic, s fine gesture. Shri Rahul Gandhi’s advisers are doing a fine job in creating a persona, humble, willing to listen, mingling with common people, taking questions freely in an unstructured format. Drawing a lot of appreciation.
