Howrah: Launching scathing attacks on the top BJP leadership, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said Gujaratis are trying to capture Bengal by bringing goons from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Addressing a public meeting in Howrah, Mamata said, “Modi is syndicate 1 and Amit Shah is syndicate 2. They are sending agencies to Abhishek’s house, Sudip’s house and to the house of Stalin’s daughter. They are continuously changing police officers. Gujaratis are trying to capture Bengal by bringing goons from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. We will not allow Bengal to become like Gujarat. BJP tries to create a communal disturbance.”

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that Rs 18,000 will be given to the farmers of West Bengal once BJP comes to power, Mamata said, “They (BJP) are giving big dialogues about giving money to farmers. I have sent the central government the list (of beneficiaries). Why are not they sending the money?

Speaking at a rally in Tarkeshwar, Hooghly on Saturday ahead of the third phase of the state assembly polls, Prime Minister Modi said, “The government that will be formed on May 2 (day of result of Assembly elections) will not only be a double engine government but will also be a government that will give a double and direct benefit. The decision to implement the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme for farmers will be taken at the first Cabinet meeting. I will also attend the Chief Minister’s swearing-in ceremony.”

TMC and BJP are at loggerheads in the poll-bound West Bengal as the latter is aspiring to form the government by toppling the incumbent.

Polling for the first two phases of the West Bengal polls were held on March 27 and April 1 respectively. The next phase of polling will take place on April 6.

  1. Indian Secularist politicians behave like dog from whom bone is snatched away, when they lose or about to loose power.

  2. With defeat looming large on horizon , Honorable Chief Minister of W.Bengal MS. Mamta ji has lost her senses. She seems have lost the sense of decorum which is expected from a matured politician . ( One and only one RG is enough to indulge in bullshit- political messaging for us . ) She should be debarred from further canvassing in ongoing election as her utterances are likely to be just outbursts of DERANGED MIND and may harm her own party as many sensible Bengali voters may as a consequences to her SENSELESS UTTERANCES , vote against her party to salvage the GOOD image of their state which She is bent upon downgrading. {{ This debarment is to be imposed by the Working Committee /Election Committee of TMC , if it exists , NOT by Election Commission }}

  3. It appears the tight grip the local goons had for the past 10 years is slipping. Normally a helpless population subdued by the goons reacts only through the ballot and that too quietly. Hence the justification of the entry of outside goons.

  4. Look who’s talking!!
    No state witnesses such political violence as West Bengal. Not even UP or Bihar. The “art” of political violence was perfected in the state of West Bengal. BJP is but a new entrant. This has been going on since the 70s. More than five decades.

  5. The fact that not a single major newspaper including theprint condemned her in their editorials show how biased you are. This lady is just a step away from asking for balkanisation. Imagine if all the other states said the same, Called bengalis outsiders? But then you get a pass for corruption, political killings, violence, pathetic governance if you are “secular”. Let’s see what happens on May 2nd. If the BJP manages to win, will she then call voters of bengal outsiders? This outsider insider rhetoric hurts us all. You want to call BJP communal go ahead, call PM names, sure. But lets not harm free movement of people or generate such sentiments that makes free movt of people hard. Imagine if Tagore a Bengali supported the British just because Gandhi a Gujarati was increasing his influence on the freedom movt. Each of our cultures and icons belong to all of us.

    Even calling BJP outsider is less harmful than naming communities specifically. That leads to bigotry. The poor UP/Bihari is there out of circumstances out of his/her hand. Atleast be a decent human being and stop naming communities. Whether based on religion or region or language. This applies to all parties. And since BJP keeps getting the rap already on this, someone should also show leaders in the opposition like Mamata the mirror. Call her out.

    I also dare thePrint to take a 50 word edit on this.
