Congress claims BJP’s policy of ‘zero tolerance for corruption’ has turned into‘zero tolerance for accountability on corruption’.

New Delhi: The Congress party has come out with four booklets targeting the Modi government even as the two-day AICC plenary session — first after Rahul Gandhi took over as party president — kicked off Saturday.

Among these is a special 20-page booklet titled, ‘Loot and Scoot of Modi Government’, released by the party’s communication department.

It begins by alleging how the BJP’s policy of ‘zero tolerance for corruption’ has turned into ‘zero tolerance for accountability on corruption’.

It also says that the BJP has become the benefactor, protector and promoter of the corrupt.

Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, the alleged PNB bank fraud accused, occupy the top slot and the booklet provides information, statistics and other details on them. The language used in simple yet full of word-play. For example, a cartoon on Vijay Mallya reads, ‘Art of Leaving’.

Going further, the party takes a potshot at BJP chief Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah, raising questions as to how his income has increased manifold in the past few years.

Another important issue which Congress has raised in the booklet is the Rafale fighter jet deal.

Presenting statistics, the booklet highlights the alleged overpricing in the Rafale deal and raises nine questions for PM Modi. It also attacked the BJP government for not disclosing the purchase price of 36 Rafale fighter jets from Dassault Aviation of France.

The booklet also slams BJP-led state governments on the corruption issue. It mentions the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh, the PDS scam in Chhattisgarh and the latest Srijan scam in Bihar among others.

The booklet has been published both in Hindi and English and is being given to every party worker.

“The idea is to empower the party workers with enough material to counter the BJP narrative of a clean government and help them fight it out at the grassroots level,” said Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

The booklet will also be published in regional languages by the state Congress units to distribute it at the block level.

The other booklets focus on national security, status of economy, farmers’ issue and unemployment.
