New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal has assets worth Rs 3.4 crore, an increase of Rs 1.3 crore since 2015, according to his election affidavit.

Kejriwal, whose party is seeking re-election in next month’s assembly polls, filed his nomination papers Tuesday. Each candidate seeking election in India is supposed to give a complete account of their assets, movable and immovable.

Going by Kejriwal’s affidavit, the rise in his assets can primarily be attributed to the increase in market value of two properties — a flat he purchased in Ghaziabad in 1998 and a property he inherited in Shivani, Haryana. While the Ghaziabad flat is currently valued at Rs 1.4 crore, the Shivani property is worth Rs 37 lakh.

Kejriwal has declared movable assets (cash, investments etc), worth Rs 9.95 lakh in his name and Rs 57.07 lakh in his wife Sunita’s.

Sunita Kejriwal, a former officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) like her husband, had movable assets worth Rs 15 lakh in 2015. Talking about the increase, senior party leaders told ThePrint that her current assets include the benefits she received when she opted for voluntary retirement in 2016.

The affidavit also declares a Gurugram flat bought by Sunita in 2010 that now has a market value of Rs 1 crore.

Kejriwal, a graduate in mechanical engineering from IIT-Kharagpur, has also declared that while he is drawing a salary, Sunita is now on pension.

Scrutiny of papers today

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has seen his movable assets dip, to Rs 4,74,888 (2018-19) from Rs 4,92,624 (2013-14).

According to his affidavit, Sisodia does not have a car in his name.

There has, however, been an increase in the value of his immovable assets — a property he had bought in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, for Rs 5.07 lakh in April 2001 is now valued at Rs 21 lakh. It was Rs 12 lakh in 2015.

The scrutiny of papers for candidates seeking election from Delhi’s 70 assembly seats will take place Wednesday. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 24 January.

Delhi will vote on 8 February, with results scheduled for 11 February.

According to the final electoral roll, over 1.46 crore people are eligible to exercise their franchise in the upcoming polls.
