Andhra Congress chief Sharmila declares assets of Rs 132 cr, owes Rs 82 cr to brother Jagan

YS Sharmila, the Congress candidate from Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, also declared in her affidavit that she owned land and jewellery worth Rs 9.29 crore and Rs 8.3 crore, respectively.

Jammu: Andhra Pradesh Congress president Y.S. Sharmila, the party’s candidate from Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, has declared assets worth an estimated Rs 132.56 crore and liabilities in the form of loans to the tune of Rs 82.77 crore. This includes a loan of Rs 82.58 crore from her brother, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy — chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and founder-president of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP).

Sharmila (50), who merged her YSR Telangana Party with the Congress in January this year, filed her nomination papers Saturday. 

Besides the loan from her brother, who happens to be her political rival, she also declared a loan of Rs 19.56 lakh from her sister-in-law and Jagan’s wife Y.S. Bharathi.

According to the affidavit, Sharmila has movable assets worth Rs 123.26 crore. These include investments worth Rs 2 crore in six companies, namely Sarah Empire Holdings, XS Hydro Energy Pvt Ltd, Swati Power Ltd, Raj Yuvaraj Enterprises, Prakash Pipes Ltd and Chaman Lal Setia Export Ltd.

Sharmila herself is a designated partner in Hyderabad-based Sarah Empire Holdings and a director in Bengaluru-based XS Hydro Energy Pvt Ltd. To the former she has given a loan/advance of Rs 50.7 crore and to the latter worth 3.08 lakh. In addition, she has also extended a loan/advance of Rs 7.5 crore to Ektha Capital Towers and another of Rs 59.31 lakh to Bengaluru-based Vijaya Green Power Ltd, of which she is among three directors.

She also owns jewellery worth Rs 8.3 crore including gold worth Rs 3.69 crore and gemstones worth Rs 4.61 crore.

In her affidavit, Sharmila also declared immovable assets worth Rs 9.29 crore, including inherited agricultural land worth Rs 1.53 crore and non-agricultural land worth Rs 5.55 crore. She also owns a residential building worth Rs 2.2 crore in Kadapa district.

Sharmila’s husband Anil Kumar, a businessman, owns assets worth Rs 49.2 crore. This includes movable assets worth Rs 45.19 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 4.05 crore. Apart from a loan of Rs 29.99 crore from his wife, he also owes Rs 40 lakh to Sharmila’s mother Y.S. Vijayamma. His total liabilities amount to Rs 35.81 crores.

According to her affidavit, Sharmila is an MBA from Osmania University (1998), and has eight criminal cases against her including one filed earlier this month for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
