Baisoya is accused of using fake undergraduate degree. ABVP says action necessary as row tarnishing DUSU’s image.
New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the RSS’s student wing, has asked its Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) president Ankiv Baisoya, embroiled in a fake degree case, to resign from the post.
The ABVP has also suspended him from the organisation till the inquiry — initiated by the Delhi University (DU) administration to check the veracity of Baisoya’s degree — is completed.
“Keeping in mind students struggle, emotions and expectations and in order to maintain the genuineness of Delhi University Students Union, ABVP asked Ankiv to resign from his post and also removed him from all the responsibilities of the organisation till DU completes the verification process,” a statement issued by ABVP’s national media convenor, Monica Chaudhary.
The statement added that if Baisoya is “found guilty then he must face all the legal action.”
ABVP state secretary Bharat Khatana told ThePrint that the action was taken as the organisation is “always committed to student’s causes.”
“This incident is continuously tarnishing the image of Delhi University Student Union and also raising question on student’s mandate,” he said.
Baisoya, who won the DUSU elections in September this year, came under a cloud after the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the Congress’ student wing, alleged that he had gained admission in MA Buddhist Studies in DU through a ‘fake’ bachelor’s degree. Baisoya has claimed that he got a BA degree from Thiruvalluvar University in Tamil Nadu.
The NSUI has taken the matter to the Delhi High Court, which Monday set Delhi University a deadline of 20 November to furnish Baisoya’s true credentials.

NSUI calls for fresh elections
Responding to the ABVP action, the NSUI termed the step as “cowardly” and called for fresh elections.
“This is clearly a decision under pressure and not on principle given that the HC order is likely to come on 20th (November) and Ankiv would have been disqualified anyway,” the NSUI’s national in-charge, Ruchi Gupta, said. “The NSUI demands fresh elections. If the DU admin continues to show itself to be servile to the interests of the ABVP, we will pursue this matter in court.”
