New Delhi: A 23-year-old woman was invited to a pilgrimage, but was subsequently gangraped at a farmhouse in Amroha district. The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested two of their colleagues and two CRPF personnel.
According to the police, the alleged incident took place in the Hasanpur area of Amroha. A sub-inspector and a head constable posted at the Hasanpur police station and an inspector and a head constable of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Amroha Superintendent of Police (SP) Lakhan Singh Yadav said in a statement that the woman, a resident of Haryana’s Fatehabad, alleged she was contacted 20 September by a female acquaintance who asked her to meet CRPF Inspector Mohit, a resident of Saurang village in Muzaffarnagar district, to visit religious places in Amroha.
As per the FIR, the victim met Mohit in Haryana’s Sonipat on 21 September. From there, they travelled to Meerut, where Mohit was joined by his colleague, CRPF Head Constable Lalaram Yadav, a resident of Rajasthan’s Alwar.
“After that, Mohit came to the Hasanpur police station of Amroha district to meet his acquaintance, Inspector Sanjay Tomar. Inspector Sanjay Tomar, who was in plainclothes, met him at the police station gate on 22 September and they left in Mohit’s Brezza car for Jhulpuri farm,” the victim said in the FIR, a copy of which ThePrint has seen.
Further, the victim said, “When we reached the house, we took two rooms there. In one room, Mohit, Inspector Sanjay Tomar and Lalaram lay down.”
After some time, Head Constable Pramod “came with food and also brought bottles of liquor and beer. All four of them sat in one room and ate food and drank liquor. I sat in my room and ate food.” the woman said in her complaint.
In the evening, Mohit and Lalaram allegedly took the woman to Hasanpur in a car and picked up Sub-Inspector Sanjay Tomar on the way. “The trio then took her to a farmhouse on the Atrasi-Hasanpur road, where they rented two rooms,” said the police.
The victim said the accused “entered my room and all three raped me one by one without my consent. After this, when Pramod came into the room, I pushed him out and locked the room from inside. After this, I informed the police by searching Google on my mobile.”
The survivor contacted police around 6 am Wednesday.
Teams from the Hasanpur and Rajabpur police stations rushed to the spot, took the woman to safety and apprehended all four accused. “Based on the victim’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against the four accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abduction or enticement and gangrape. All four have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody,” the SP said.
Departmental proceedings have been initiated against the local sub-inspector following his suspension and a report has been sent to senior CRPF authorities, recommending strict disciplinary action against the two paramilitary personnel, he added.
