New Delhi: Three days after the farmers’ tractor rally took a violent turn on Republic Day, groups of farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab began arriving at the Ghazipur and Singhu borders, after Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait broke into tears in front of television cameras Thursday night as he claimed that the farmers were being painted as traitors by the government.
Police deployment has been increased at both places. At Singhu, farmer leaders ThePrint spoke to said the police have created pressure on them to vacate the place. Meanwhile, at Ghazipur, the Apar Nagar Ghaziabad district magistrate’s office has issued a notice to farmer leaders Rakesh Tikait, Jagtar Singh Bajwa, Tejindra Singh Virk and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the umbrella organisation of the protesting farmers, to vacate the area.
