Jabalpur/Bhopal, Oct 9 (PTI) The West Central Railway (WCR) cancelled five Delhi-bound trains on Friday due to “anticipated heavy traffic congestion” in the national capital.

The move comes on the eve of the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

When asked whether trains were cancelled due to the protest, WCR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Madhur Verma told PTI Videos, “There is no message regarding protests with us.”

In a separate query, he said the trains were cancelled as heavy traffic congestion is anticipated in the Delhi area.

These five trains are Mahakaushal Express, Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Sampark Kranti, Jabalpur Nizamuddin Superfast, Bhopal-Nizamuddin and Kota-Nizamuddin, Verma said.

These trains were cancelled only for one day.

Meanwhile, a release issued by the public relations officer of WCR Bhopal said, “Due to operational reasons, the railway administration has cancelled Train No. 22221 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Mumbai)-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express via Bhopal from its originating station on October 9.”

Passengers travelling on this train from Bhopal station are requested to plan their journey accordingly and use the official Railway information and enquiry services for updated information regarding rail travel, it said.

The railway administration regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers, it added. PTI MAS NP

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
