Nurpur (HP), Aug 18 (PTI) A little over a year after losing her husband in an Army operation in Kashmir, war widow Kalpana Dhiman of Kutlehar village in Himachal Pradesh is all set to begin her military training after securing rank 1 in the non-technical course of the Short Service Commission (women) under the ‘Veer Nari’ category.
Kalpana’s husband, Major Ankit Dhiman, was serving with the Rashtriya Rifles when he was killed in April 2025 during an operation in Kashmir.
Her husband’s encouragement to push beyond her limits to pursue goals of her life, and the support of her father-in-law, Janved Kumar, helped her prepare for the SSB and achieve this distinction, the 32-year-old said.
Earlier, Kalpana worked as a teacher in Army schools but her achievement has brought pride and cheer among residents of Kutlehar village in Fatehpur subdivision of Kangra district.
Her military training is scheduled to start in October 2026 and after that, she will embark on a new journey of service donning the Army uniform. PTI COR BPL SKY SKY
