Indore, Oct 22 (PTI) A video of a leopard entering a house in Indore surfaced on social media on Thursday, prompting the forest department to launch a search operation in the area, an official said.

The house is located near the Ralamandal Hills forest, and the big cat is suspected to have strayed into the residential area from there, Divisional Forest Officer Dr Lal Sudhakar Singh told PTI.

“Taking cognisance of the video showing a leopard entering a house, we have launched a search for it. However, the leopard disappeared before the rescue team could reach the spot,” he said.

The official further said blood was visible on the leopard’s head in the video.

“It will be possible to confirm whether the leopard was injured or if it was hunting an animal only after it is found,” he said.

Singh said there were no reports of any person or animal being injured in the leopard attack in the area.

The expansion of the city and the construction of houses around these hills were affecting wildlife habitats, forcing leopards to venture into residential areas in search of food and water, the official said.

The forest department has advised people in the vicinity to remain vigilant, avoid venturing out alone at night and immediately report any sightings or information about the leopard, he added. PTI HWP MAS GK
