Bahraich (UP), Aug 8 (PTI) Police have registered an FIR against a man following a court order over allegations of inducing, pressuring and threatening a Hindu woman to convert her religion in Bahraich district, officials said on Saturday.
According to the FIR lodged at the Dargah Sharif police station on August 6, a 45-year-old woman from Tulsipur village came in contact with the accused identified as Noor Mohammad (50) alias Puttan Baba for faith healing to treat her and her children who had been ill for some time.
The woman alleged that on January 9, the accused called her to a dargah. When she went there, the accused took her on his motorcycle to meet a prominent cleric at the Dargah Sharif in Bahraich, but instead took her near Turaini Rajjab village.
According to the complainant, the accused offered her Rs 2 lakh to convert to Islam. When she refused, he threatened her with dire consequences.
The woman said she submitted a written complaint to the police, but no action was taken. Subsequently, a complaint was lodged on the IGRS portal in February. However, as no action was taken despite her repeated complaints, a case was filed in a court in March.
The court of the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) in Bahraich recently ordered the police to register a case and investigate the matter.
Acting on the court order, police registered a case under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, and Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS.
