Gorakhpur (UP), Sep 27 (PTI) A carpenter and his wife were killed when a speeding truck rammed into their motorcycle and ran over them on the Gorakhpur-Sonauli highway in the Pipiganj area on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The husband died on the spot, while the woman succumbed to her injuries at the Jungle Kaudia Community Health Centre, where she was taken. The truck driver fled towards the Campierganj area after the accident, police said.
The accident took place around 3 pm near the forest department checkpost on the Pipiganj bypass, when Rajkumar Yadav alias Raju (40) from Makhanaha village and his wife Rambha Devi (35) were heading on a motorcycle towards Indrapur in Campierganj.
Their 12-year-old son Adarsh, who was unwell, was travelling ahead with his maternal uncle on another motorcycle.
The truck hit the couple’s two-wheeler from behind and ran over them, police said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and efforts are underway to nab the driver.
Apart from Adarsh, the couple is survived by their daughters Aastha (8) and Riya (6).
Jewellery recovered from Rambha Devi has been handed over to the mourning family, police said. PTI COR NAV RUK
