Chennai, Aug 8 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday visited the popular temple town of Tiruvannamalai and offered prayers at the Sri Arunachaleswara temple.
The minister offered prayers at the Lord Shiva temple in Tiruvannamalai and also visited the Sri Ramanasramam there and offered worship.
BJP workers accorded their senior leader a warm welcome.
The minister arrived here by a flight from Mumbai and travelled to Tiruvannamalai, about 200 km from Chennai, by a helicopter.
Later, he left for Puducherry. The distance between Puducherry and Tiruvannamalai is roughly 110 km.
The union home minister was given a rousing reception on his arrival at Lok Niwas.
Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N Rangasamy and his ministerial colleagues, among others, received Shah.
On August 9, the union minister is scheduled to preside over a government event in the union territory and present the President’s colours to the Puducherry police. The event will be held at the police grounds at Gorimedu. Also, the union minister is scheduled to inaugurate “Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra” in Puducherry.
This is the first visit of Shah to Puducherry after the AINRC-BJP coalition ministry was formed after the Assembly elections held in May 2026. PTI COR VGN KH
