Agartala, Oct 22 (PTI) Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Thursday urged police to bring a Delhi-based content creator accused of racially abusing a Tripura youth to the state for a fair investigation into the matter.

A video purportedly showing content creator Amir Shokeen making derogatory remarks against the youth has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread condemnation across the Northeast.

The controversy prompted Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha to direct the state’s police chief to coordinate with the Delhi Police, while leaders cutting across party lines have demanded action against the content creator.

A complaint has also been lodged with the Tripura Police accusing Shokeen of racial harassment, cyberbullying and making derogatory remarks against the state’s indigenous communities.

In a video posted on social media, Debbarma said, “Shokeen has not only insulted an indigenous youth from the state but also hurt the pride and dignity of our state. We have lodged an FIR against the content creator here, and therefore he should be brought to the state for a fair investigation.”

“I heard he has sought an apology for the video. What he has done is vulgar. He has to pay a price for his misdeed, and we have to prevent recurrence of such videos,” he said.

Debbarma said he has spoken to the victim, who happens to be from Ananda Bazaar area of North Tripura, and offered him all help if he wishes to return to the state. PTI PS NSD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
