Kota, Sep 15 (PTI) Three mild tremors struck four to five villages in Nolai Gram Panchayat of Pirawa block in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district on Tuesday morning, triggering brief panic and prompting students and staff at a government upper primary school to evacuate the building as a precaution, officials said.
The tremors were felt in Nolai, Barkhedi, Khajuri, Napakhedi and Awar between 7.15 am and 9.50 am. No further tremors were reported.
Teachers evacuated students to an open playing field, following which the school was declared closed for the day.
Villagers reported intense shaking, with household utensils falling during the third tremor. Hairline cracks were reported in one or two houses, though officials said it was unclear whether they were caused by the tremors or pre-existing. No casualties or structural collapses were reported.
Tehsildar Dhanraj Gochar and Pirawa police station in-charge Rampal Yadav visited the affected villages to assess the situation.
“The area is near Gagrin Dam and three tremors hit four to five villages between 7.15 am and 9.50 am,” Gochar said.
He said villagers evacuated the children to open ground after the first tremor and that no one was injured.
“Only very minor cracks were reported in one or two scattered houses. It is uncertain whether these were pre-existing. We are continuously monitoring the villages, and our patwaris and revenue officials are stationed there,” he said.
The administration and police remained on alert while teams surveyed the affected villages.
Officials said the seismic intensity and whether the vibrations were caused by natural earthquakes or localised seismic movements would be confirmed after an expert team’s technical assessment. PTI COR APL APL
