New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) As the national capital grapples with poor air quality, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday hit back at the Delhi government, urging it to “stop making excuses and provide clean air.”
The response came after Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa accused the AAP-led Punjab government of misleading people about stubble burning, alleging that a sharp spike in farm fires in the neighbouring state contributed to the deterioration in the national capital’s air quality.
AAP Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh reported the pollution levels he observed while travelling from Delhi to Mohali on Wednesday. He compared the Air Quality Index (AQI) readings between Delhi, Murthal, Kurukshetra, and Mohali, noting that Mohali’s levels were significantly lower than Delhi’s.
“People say that if you make a mistake, you should accept it, but BJP leaders do not seem to understand this. On Wednesday morning, I was travelling from Delhi to Mohali. At 7 am, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was 633. When I reached Murthal, the AQI there was 818, even higher than Delhi’s. As I travelled further towards Punjab, Kurukshetra’s AQI was below 300, while Mohali’s AQI was just 45,” Singh said.
He added that instead of focusing on the AQI, the Delhi BJP posted the video and chose to focus on the error showing the wrong date.
He challenged the Delhi BJP, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Sirsa to prove the video is wrong and said, “If they cannot do so, they must focus on Delhi’s pollution.”
“In the evening, the AQI at different locations across Delhi is crossing 600 and going even higher. Therefore, they should stop diverting people’s attention from the real issues and stop shifting their responsibility onto others,” he further said in a statement. PTI SSM MPL
