Ballia (UP), Oct 9 (PTI) Samajwadi Party MP Ramashankar Vidyarthi on Friday welcomed AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s recent statement on forging a poll alliance in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters here, Vidyarthi said, “The battle between the NDA and the PDA (Pichhada, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) is underway in the state,” and added that anyone who wants to join the fight is welcome.

“For the SP, the seat does not matter; victory does,” the Salempur MP emphasised, adding that between the Congress and the SP, any candidate capable of winning a seat will receive the ticket.

Reacting to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath giving a new name to the PDA, he said, “Young people should stay away from the ‘Bhasmasur’ that is the BJP.”

Bhasmasur, a demonic figure in Hindu mythology, possessed the power of turning anyone into ashes by simply touching their head.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Owaisi on October 1 had said his party was open to forge a poll alliance in Uttar Pradesh as it does not want the BJP to come to power there for the third time.

“We don’t want the BJP to come to power in Uttar Pradesh for the third time. In order to stop this from happening, we are open to an alliance,” Owaisi said while addressing a press conference in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly called Aurangabad) in Maharashtra.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
